Why does /fa/ hate Doc Martens so much? I just think they're neat
>>18493824 (OP)they're a bit naff †bh
>>18493824 (OP)because they're normie popular. /fa/ likes to be contrarian so they hate it.
>>18493856in other words, they're naff
>>18493824 (OP)they need to be at least a men's size 10 to look decent
>>18493824 (OP)Love the WW2 black military boots silhouette but these things are a bitch to walk in or so I've heard. Alternatives?
>>18493824 (OP)you're just paying for the brand, the materials and build quality are garbage
>>18493824 (OP)Only looka good when paired with red or white laces
unfortunately they've been claimed by 19 year old booktok she/theys and autistic dungaree lesbians
this can be offset by simply swapping the laces out, thoughever
>>18493824 (OP)Because docs are a shell of their former self. I'm not a purist saying that everything needs to stay exactly the same to keep a product quality but there is a huge difference between their boots pre and post outsourcing. OG and vintage docs are worth it every day of the week but anything in the last 20 years or so is paying for the name rather than the product.
>>18493824 (OP)Same desu
They’re cool boots
I think it’s the stigma that come with them that lots of left leaning and trannies wear them
I genuinely don’t care
They look good. So you buy them.
“B-b- but trannies wear them!”
Ok?
>>18493906You have to break them in first
They mold to your feet
it's boot autists needing to feel superior for spending 800+ bucks on their fourth pair that they barely ever wear, let alone actually do anything with that would require that kind of "build quality"
never ask a woman her age, never ask a boot enthusiast how often they have actually had footwear resoled
that said, docs really have pretty garbage quality these days, and while the style and silhouette is great for what it is, you can get this with buying actual military boots, even modern ones from the 90s upwards will have better leather and build quality, and most things 80s and older will be really solid
>>18494116boots that old are usually second hand
I'm fine with most secondhand clothing articles but secondhand footwear kinda gives me the ick, ngl
>>18494119but they have also often not been worn for decades, it's no more "unsanitary" than much of any leather, plus you can wear insoles
your loss though, even retro docs are pretty decent
there's military surplus too, and unworn old military boots, just gotta look around
They were alright until 2003 when they became chinkshit.
>>18493824 (OP)They are clown shoes, look how wide they are. No one needs them that wide
what boots look like doc Martens but are actually good?

>>18494267Solovairs are made by the same people in the same factory as old doc martens. Comparable cost to the more expensive docs, leather quality better but still not too good (most of the price goes to labor) but they’ve got a similar punk-goth-skinhead-whatever silhouette that nowhere else really does

>>18494290Both of the ones I posted are hi shine which has a plastic coating put on. They have most of their boots in other versions, like greasy full grain (better for long term use since the hi shine can easily be scuffed) and gaucho (very tough and very long lasting but looks weird and dry imo like a cowboy boot). The astronauts are called that cause they’re modeled off of actual astronaut boots. The first pic was an englander. >>18493911Cardboard "leather", brittle soles.
>>18493911Are solovairs good? Normies tell me they're basically the same thing but still decently made.
>>18495247>Some people see Solovair as the original Docs, because for a time they were licensed to make Docs, and after the licensing was over, the continued to make essentially the same shoes… There is a slight difference in construction, as the Docs yellow stitch joins the welt to the upper, where as the gray stitch on the Solovair is just for show, and the stitch that joins the welt to the leather upper is actually hidden.>From Rose Anvil’s deconstruction of Solovair, vintage 90s docs, the newer vintage MIE docs and the Asian made docs, he found that the Solovair soles to be the most dense rubber, which translates to it will take longer to wear down by comparison to the Asian made docs, but only slightly better than the new MIE docs, and about the same as the vintage 90s docs. The Solovair leather is slightly thicker than Docs. Solovair have a felt lining under the sole, as do the vintage docs, but the Asian docs have a foam lining, which initially feel softer, but compress a lot over time and get less comfortable. A big difference is Solovairs have a wooden shank… in the middle of the shoe that provides support for where the mid sole doesn’t touch the ground. Asian docs don’t have a shank… I would assume that the vintage MIE docs have shanks). A shank provides support, which means your feet get less fatigued and are more comfortable over longer time. If some docs have a sole where the entire sole touches the ground, then a shank is not necessary, as there is support over the entire sole, but soles with a gap in the middle that doesn’t touch the ground should really have a shank. Even if Dr Marten did upgrade any of the materials on their Asian made docs, simply adding a small wooden shank would be a significant upgrade to make it a significantly better boot/shoe.TLDR is Yeah
>>18493906just get milsurp ones. docs are for fags
>>18493824 (OP)Their soles look bad. It makes them look cheap.
I got mine from Vietnam for something like €50 and they probably had "fallen off the factory truck" or somesuch like a lot of the clothes you can buy there if they're manufactured there.
I've had no issue with them and find them super comfortable but the normal pricing for them is insane and you should never pay that.
>>18494028That's why you buy Solovair instead

I got pic related for christmas 5 years ago, daily go to footwear other than when i'm gyming or work cuz i need steel toes. boot autists will act like these things will disintegrate the second you put them on. i've worn these for all seasons, done countless hikes in them and even worn them while following an abandoned train track for 30 miles.
the soles are perfectly fine, just minor scuffs on the toes and what not from normal wear. any boot that lasts me every season over the course of 5 years is a good boot imo, i don't give a fuck what any $800 larp boot tard has to say.
1460 greasy
Ignore retards, just look at the shit retards wear in /btg/, literally clown after clown.
I’ve had a pair of mono lows for 13 years now (referred by effay in its prime obviously). Thanks negroes. It’s held up extremely well. If I told you I bought it a year ago you would believe me. Haven’t done shit to them either. Never waxed, creamed, creampied or whatever. I occasionally (AKA once a year or so) wipe them with a damp tissue.
Oh. I did have to replace the laces. That’s it.
>>18496078How the fuck did you find them comfortable enough to do hikes in? But yea I agree with you bootfags act like docs will evaporate if you wear them too long. They want to look like blue collar manual laborers while bar hopping in their bespoke logger high heels
>>18496087Fedora of boots general. Every boot I see in there is most likely paired with dark blue jeans (cuffed) and some basic plaid shirt. That style got played out in 2010 when everyone realized those hipster boots and styles were fucking retarded

depends on whos askin
if you wanna know why, just read the first paragraph, but if you wanna get into leather boots read the entire thing
two types of peeps who hate docs
1. they acquaint with the transformers which equates to yeah, cringe
2. when the production was moved to asia the build quality went down exponentially, basically just mass produced slop
if you wanna get into it, ill recommend you solovair (since they still make them like they used to) or any other alternative brands. whats nice about other brands is they have their distinct detail of their own but still leather boots.(if you wanna differentiate yourself but still wear leather boots) i have me some firetraps. they aint popular but they get the job done. theyre all a little pricey but buy once, cry once, never again
im just sick and tired of buying new pair of modern shoes that last maybe 2 or 3 months then buy another pair again. ive had it, id rather buy expensive once that last a lifetime than buying disposable shoes that last less than a year
>>18496095I got pretty callused around side of my big toe and the side of my feet but that's mostly because there was too much play inside of the boot, I should've worn a thicker sock. I've done hikes in actual hiking boots and my entire foot and toes were just blisters galore, i've tried hiking sandals and they squished my pinky toes too much, i've tried regular running shoes and I get blisters and need the ankle support. Honestly they just hug my ankle nicely, can blast through rocky or muddy areas easily I just gotta come prepared with some thick socks so there's less movement in the toe area. I've also done hikes in my slip on steel toe boots and they have a similar feel but cinching down the ankle really tight is crucial.
I totally agree it's full larp, boots are meant to be a rugged piece of footwear not something you need to nurture and give a bath every time you get home. I understand doc's are primarily "fashion" boots but they are rugged enough that they can withstand a beating and still be presentable.
>>18493824 (OP)they don't do half sizes and wide widths and therefore i hate them. grapes don't even taste that good.

The style is fine for going into the office, but nobody finds the whole menswear overly “mature” look to be fashionable or attractive. It’s just default job interview clothing for techies.

Love me docs, simple as
They are like the comfiest boots I own, I don't get this stuff about them being hard to break in or whatever. Break them in and keep going. Mine are in oxblood and I let them get scuffed up I think they look cool.

>>18493911If your paying for the brand, why are those literally the cheapest leather boots on the market? There is nothing that cost less
>>18493824 (OP)GP Boots but shit
Tbh I don't think docs are ovrrpriced considering the market prices. Boots that are objetively better than docs start at around 350-375, maybe more with inflation. Boots that are 150 or less are objetively worse than docs. Which boots at docs' price range are better?
The only exception I know of are military surpluss boots, but there's a lot of variation in quality and looks there.
