/wt/ - Watch General
Hi, welcome to the watch thread.

/wt/ fully supports Rolex and decided to make it the official 4channel's brand of choice for the years 2025, 2026 and 2027 due to its tremendous contribution to the fine art of watchmaking.

Some resellers or Rolex AD must be making them.
I've noticed the second someone declares another brand as as good or better than Rolex the thread dies and another one shilling Rolex springs up.

Shills ruin the hobby and they'll probably ruin the mechanical industry.
Clearly shills making it.

LOL at this.

The only reason I'd EVER consider a Rolex is because it was swiss made. If even 10% is made in China it holds no value to me more than any other brand.

You do realize pretty much everything is available online, right? All you need to do is read a PDF and try not to be a dishonest cunt for 5 minutes.

Rolex' sustainability report for 2023: https://media.rolex.com/rolexcom/about-rolex/corporate-social-responsibility/sustainability-report/pdf/2023-csr-sustainability-report-digital_en?utm_source=chatgpt.com
>Rolex produces their own alloys
>96% of the raw materials come from Switzerland, 1% from bordering countries (France, Germany, Austria, Italy), 2% from European countries, 1% from other countries (only Thailand and USA are named).
>Rolex claims to create, manufacture, assemble and test all their watches exclusively in their own installations in Switzerland

>inb4 "B-B-B-BUT THEY'RE LYING!!! THEY HAVE TO BE!!!"
They've been audited by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, major consulting company. Also the stakes are too high to lie on this kind of official and public report. If you're caught lying, you're done (and so is the one auditing you).

The same informations exist for literally every Swiss brand (it's a legal obligation here). The brands with a good reputation of doing pretty much in house and/or work with only Swiss subcontractors are known by everyone in the industry : Rolex, Patek, AP, JLC, Chopard and Omega.
(yes, Omega. Again, public informations).

>claiming Rolexes are made in China

Proof your a shill, nobody on this thread appears to be making this claim.

Also not claiming Rolex makes their watches in china but it's likely the boxes, bracelets and bezels of at least some models may be.

Why?
Total watch production of Rolex likely exceeds most of Switzerland's TOTAL watch production.

Now riddle me this shill how can Rolex make more watches that would take Switzerland's entire nation of watchmakers to produce at the volumes claimed?

Either they are exaggerating their production, Switzerland massively under reports the amount of watches produced OR Rolex buys some parts outside of Switzerland that may be partially or fully made in China.

Math doesn't care about your emotions.

Reposting now that there's a living /wt/, had a little horology evening.
>OMEGA
My speedmaster was ready for pickup but the telemeter bezel wasn't perfectly aligned (yes I brought a loupe to check, yes, the last time I went in for service after the bezel popped off due to 'operator error' they also reinstalled it slightly off-center and I seethed for 5 years until now.) This time I'll only accept perfection. Back to waiting.
>CZAPEK
My first time seeing Czapek irl, they had lovely service and some nice pieces. My favorite two were the onyx dial with sapphire indices, and the meteorite green dial. The size was perfect, the bracelet was really nice, flexible, but it's a little flashy. They said they can order a matte one for me though. Movements were just unreal, you can find lots of macro footage online but honestly I'd say second only to Lange based on what I've actually held in my hands. 300m WR too. I've got a deposit down on SLGB005 so I'm holding off, but it can't hurt to look.
>ROLEX
I finally went in, quite friendly staff similar to Omega (also all Chinese), they let me try on GMTs, but they only had Zombie and Pepsi (I wanted rootbeer). Anons should be aware the rehauts were aligned. I was a little underwhelmed, maybe because I'm used to the speedmaster with bracelet, but they were a bit smaller and a lot lighter than I was expecting. Obviously the bracelets weren't sized for me, but given that the lugs are thick all the way to the ends, it did feel like it stuck out a bit near the edges of my wrist. Idk what I was expecting but they're just steel (and gold) sports watches. I really didn't like the colored ceramic though, it looks like shitty plastic to me. It's a no from me, but I will give some more thought to Czapek.

It's a zombie brand claiming descent from Czapek, who was the original partner of Patek before Philippe. In reality they're a 2010s company and they're known for total transparency with their supply chain and customizability. For example the green meteorite comes with three different seconds hands (silver, red, or red tip). They said they can switch it out to whichever I prefer.

I agree that most of the Antarctiques are boring, but seeing the limited ones:
>onyx sapphire,
>green meteorite,
>purple storm (handpainted),
>diamond indices,
I was really impressed. The dials alone make the watches worthwhile, then you see the movement and it's just a bonus. I've never really fussed about bracelets, but they fit my wrist well at least. Also the guilloche on the dial you posted looks great irl. I want to see some parmigiani irl to compare the two. At this point my biggest criteria for a watch is "does it visually amaze me" which is counterbalanced by "is it too flashy for my tastes?"
These Czapeks hit the sweet spot. And with a miniscule lug-to-lug distance of 45mm they wear really well for a 40.5mm watch.

Waiting for their distributor near me to finish renovating their store.
I have 3 comments regarding PF:
1. I'm worried the dials will look "too empty" in person. I totally get what they're going for and I appreciate the lack of obnoxious branding but still, I prefer the space to be used somehow, unless it's a very dark dial.
2. My level of appreciation for the brand as a whole very low. I really like the Toric and Tonda based on photos/videos but some of their past models have been absolute atrocities.
3. While technically a vertically integrated manufacturer, they primarily sell their movements to other brands, and generally I don't like the idea of a non-purpose-built movement at that price.
But you never really know until you see it irl. I didn't expect to like Czapek but I just went in on a whim.

I read specifically for the SRPG theres some issues where the watch would just stop randomly midday while in use, to be fair, i did look specifically for common problems. so maybe its not as widespread as it seems to be

This just made me wonder, is "faux patina" actually period correct? This film was made in 1962 and the lume looks as yellowed as the same watch looks today. Was lume actually just yellow back then? That would mean yellow lume today is actually not that strange.

Every video/image shows a different dial color.
GS Boutique messaged me and said it's ready, I'll go later in the week.

It's a classic (Grand) Seiko dial, the color depends on how the light is hitting it. You'll get purple, pink, brown, black, and who knows what else. It'll be hard to photograph well.

I think a lot of videographers oversaturate the hell out of their footage. I'll know if I like it when I'm holding it in person. I'm looking for something that's more lavender than pink.

Dear anon who always replies on my behalf, this time you got it wrong. I WILL be posting pics of any cool watches I come across irl, just like I posted the Czapeks earlier.

I finally went to a Grand Seiko shop to look at some of the watches in person. I thought they looked nice in pictures. But in person? They look and feel just like any other $100 Seiko.

Is this truly the best the japs have to offer? What an embarrassment.

yeah I've been told to not wear my GS because it looks too flashy, I don't know what the other anon expects other than maybe a 48mm gold diver with a turquoise blue alligator strap

The Rolex OP grape dial was always on my short list, but it's a classic sunburst dial. The texture on this is weird.

I like it, it' not versatile but i like it (unlike the teal and shiny one).

But 2026 is the 100 years of Tudor, so personally i wouldn't buy any Tudor before Watches and Wonders 2026.
