How do I wash this parka properly?
Yesterday I got a great deal on this German Parka at the thrift store, around 12.50 euro. It smells weird, kinda moldy. Whats the proper way to clean it and get rid of the smell?

Classic parka, and fine price (8e could be better 12 with insert is ok)
Moldy stench is characteristic for this material. It consumes moist like a crazy.
Just boil it in washing machine. Don't care about folding marks/creases they gonna stay forever. Like a very bad ironing.
Then restore dwr or just wax shoulders and hood.

I’d be careful boil washing it might shrink I’m pretty sure it’s sateen cotton.
Just wash on warm with baking soda and some lavender scent clothing detergent
It’s a dope jacket btw nice find

What an ugly jacket. Just ditch it and get something worth a shit.

Been thinking of taking it to a dry cleaning. Would that ruin it?

It's a musty milsurp smell right? Unfortunately you can't get rid of it, it will return no matter how many times you wash it. You can however mask it by stuffing dryer sheets in the pockets and throughout the body in an airtight container for a week. The sun can also neutralize odors but it would be bleached by the time you got rid of it. I've gotten rid of the smell of 50 years of cigarette smoke with the dryer sheet method.

This might sound like the most logical method. I will try that for sure.
