Whenever I talk to runners they say something like "oh yeah bro we are made to run, we aren't the best distance runners for nothing", wtf do they mean by that? Sledge dogs for example can literally run more and faster than us in ANY given time frame. When did this meme start?

Once again sledge dogs beat you in this given time frame.
The world record HUMAN run for 24 hours is 198 miles, sledge dogs can EASILY smash this knowing the fact that they run about 15 miles per hour for 10 hours in races, they have more than enough time to rest 10 hours then run again 4 hours smashing the world record easily.

Even in an 80 hour time frame they will outrun a human, I don't think you fully understand just how SLOW that pace was for 80 hours, that human was running at 4.35 miles per hour, if we do the math husky can just run 15 miles per hour for 10 hours giving 150 miles, then rest for an ENTIRE DAY (24 hours) then run yet again 10 hours giving 300 miles in total with 54 hours clocked, then REST ANOTHER 20 FUCKING HOURS and giving 74 hours clocked in total then run about 4 hours at 15 miles per hour smashing that world record, you literally can't beat these things in any given time frame. It had DAYS to rest and still broke the world record length in that given time frame with more than 2 hours to spare.

bro , there are literally africans right now performing what is known as persistence hunting, where they chase an animal down until it becomes exhausted and kill it. it works against almost all mammals. The ability to do this is unique to humans, and just because some dog living in the fucking arctic can out run a human , doesn't mean that humans aren't good distance runners. if you hadn't noticed DISTANCE is not the same as SPEED you fucking retard.

Do you honestly think chasing down an animal that can run 40-60 mph is a good idea or in anyway efficient? If you used your brain you'd realize how moronic persistence hunting is, even a pack of wolves can come up with smarter tactics.

putting a human in -15C degree vs a dog is far more ridiculous, so you suck my ass.

the fact is that the longer any supposed race is the human has a greater chance of winning, and if the temp is >10C , the chance of the dog winning plummets dramatically, because they cannot radiate heat like humans can.

running for miles does not require brain capable of anything more than telling the legs to run

Also no, a 70lbs gazelle is not enough calories to support chasing gazelle for miles at a time.
A 150lbs deer has roughly 55lbs of meat on it, 33%
A 70lbs gazelle would have 23lbs of meat, if each pound of meat has 600 calories, you end up with 13800Calories, feeding ONE person who didn't exercise for 6.9 days, or feeding a family of four adults for 2 days.

Assume they have to run 3 miles before the gazelle collapses and dies. That's an extra 350Cal per person, unless it's a one person on a solo hunt providing for the other 3, meaning they need to chase down a gazelle every other day just to survive.

You likely have more humans trying to survive together which need more calories, you're probably not going to be able to get more than 1 gazelle per chase as they'll all scatter and you'll pick the slowest one.

It's not efficient.
You can kill a lot of fat birds by walking around slowly throwing rocks or by surrounding some slightly bigger shit and throwing rocks or sticks.

You're missing a huge part in this.

The dogs have to literally be rested regularly though.
The dogs can run 10 hours a day, but they can't run 10 hours non-stop a day they will die.
You can research this yourself, the dogs are often run 4-5 hours and rested for 4-5 hours.
Humans can actually run for up to 80hours and 44 minutes as the current record without stopping.

So if those dogs run 5 hours at 20mph with a 5 hour break after we are looking at 100 miles over ten hours.
While the longest recorded distance a human has ever run in 10 hours is 119 miles.

Human actually beats the dog.
Where the dog beats us is that when the dog has rested again, it can go the exact same speed it did before.
Meanwhile the human only gets slower as he continues to run.

For continuous runs, humans beat out nearly every single animal on the planet and has been proven time and time again.
We simply fail because most animals recover faster in much shorter time frames.

It is quite efficient, albeit cumbersome. Most animals tire WAY more quickly than humans and can only run fast for a few minutes max, so if you hunt in an open place where you can see animals from far away, you can keep running after an animal and it will stop being able to run away after a few hours. Assume it takes 800 kcal per hour for you to run continuously (which is actually a lot; for a small-framed African runner 600 would be more realistic) and you have to hunt a deer for four hours until it drops dead from exhaustion. You've then used 3200 kcal to kill it, but the meat on a whole deer carcass has over 50000 kcal, which means that you've made a 15x gain with your energy "investment". The main problems with persistence hunting are:

a) if you lose sight of the animal, all your effort was for nothing, so you can only do it in open terrain and
b) you usually eventually kill the animal in a place far from home, which means that you have to carry it home over many kilometres,

which is why most civilizations stopped doing it as soon as they developed decent hunting weapons like bows.

The vast, vast majority of land animals can't. Outliers like sledge dogs and horses can under very specific circumstances, but most animals have no chance. The main reason for that is because they can't sweat and thus only cool down very inefficiently, which means that they can only run fast for a few minutes at a time, after which they have to cool down, giving you ample time to catch up.

>Outliers like sledge dogs and horses can under very specific circumstances
as stated early in thread this only depends on how many hours anyways.
depending on which hour it is, the horses/dogs beat the human, but on the other hour the human beats the horse/dogs.
Until it comes full circle to the horses/dogs beating the human again.

They can only do that in the Arctic where they have no cooling problems. Try that in a hot or moderate climate and a sledge dog will collapse from overheating in less than half an hour, simply because they can't sweat and have to rely on panting, which only works efficiently in cool, dry air.

humans aren't good at sprinting, when they say "running" they mean a brisk jog, humans can sustain that longer than a dog can. even coyotes get tired eventually. but it doesn't really matter because this thread is really fucking stupid anyway.

They eat the offal and the fat too. And probably run a bit more efficiently than that.

have you considered that neither of you are in any way peak physical condition or even close?

an adult male should be able to run 10 miles and sprint for an entire mile.

The persistence hunting meme really filters the people who just take in and regurtitate popsci like npcs and the people with actual brains who can think for one second and realize how untenable persistence hunting is. Even the most rudimentary tactics and basic tools would make persistence hunting pointless and even deadly because while your retarded ass is running marathons to catch a gazelle another tribe is using their brain to formulate strategies and create tools. Get it through your dumb nigger brains skulls, humans get mogged physically in every single way by other animals, what humans can do is think and communicate.

and throw with accuracy
Not for nothing though we do have a lot of endurance, sure the persistence hunting thing is overplayed but people can work at pretty much any repetitive task for hours without pooping out and that helps build civilization
