If you're lucky, you get to exercise for the rest of your life.

thats why you dont burn yourself out with super optimal routines that maximize gains, because you eventually just burn out.

It's far better to do a routine that you enjoy that is sub optimal than an optimal routine, fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.

If you stop moving you're just waiting to die anyway so you do exercise all your life. Some people just stop way early

not all parts of the body last the same, beware. cartilage doesn't regenerate, you can stress your joints a lot when you are young and everything will seem fine, but 20 or 30 years later the wall hits you even if you think you've always had a perfectly healthy and fit lifestyle, and you find yourself decrepit before 60

>cartilage doesn't regenerate
Hmm? Even your bones regenerate. Your body is constantly replacing tissue.

cartilage regenerates, you have chondrocytes in your joints that respond to stress by creating cartilage

Where problems arise is when the degree of degredation exceeds the amount of healing that can be done

I don't get this 'have to' mentality. The best part of my day is often the gym. Does my life just suck?

>Even your bones regenerate
>even
Bones are the best regenerating tissue of your body, they have a lot of blood going in them and are continuously dissolved and recreated even without injury. Cartilage has no blood supply and is very bad at regeneration.

You don't "exercise" for the rest of your life, you have active lifestyle and do sports because they are fun.

OP are you too lazy for 400 squats and 200 push-ups?
You can maintain muscle mass relative easily with just calisthenics if you had to.
You will lose most of your strength gains but you can maintain on a just a calisthenics routine.

do it every day for a month. Then stop for a day. That day, you'll feel like shit. That 'shit', is how you felt your entire life without realizing it.

only if you want to be able to.

But don't froget that that pic is also confirmation bias, that's the 70 year old triathaltete who didn't have some common or expected injury or wear & tear on hips, knees, etc.

There are still lots of "people" on here who think of and treat lifting as a purely vain activity and act like le moderate light cardio and eating the food pyramid is the secret to longevity
No, strength training is the single healthiest thing you can do
