btw how is riding one of those bikes? I've only ever used cheap mountain bikes

It's basically just a road bike with wider tyres. They're fun.

Had pretty good weather this weekend, finally did some cycling since September and started my cycling season. Was a bit rusty and the mountain bike which I got as a gift isn't as fast, but the cardio and sun gains was good.

Decent new bike for $1000-1500, can get a good used one for like 500, less with a bit of luck. But the latter is only advisable if you know how and where to look for issues.

If you have the money look for something in the 1,5-2k range from a reputable brand. You'll get a pretty great bike for that money. There's a big difference betweena 1k bike and a 2k bike, but after that the diminishing returns begin to ramp up.

Worst Puck doesn't do hard rides.

>>76271030
As the other said, it's fun, because it goes much faster on the road, while enabling to go to trails (disclaimer: there is quite a difference between what Americans and Europeans call "gravel" paths).
Basically just by switching your tires you can make it a pure road bike, or conversely, handle green paths easily.

i personally do not think cycling is a social enough hobby, the isolation thing is reaching critical mass, people should play team sports like pickleball or volleyball

protip, the whole no one socializes anymore is a psyop.
Men regularly had no friends for hundreds if not thousands of years. If you got time to be friends with dozens and dozens of people you aren't working hard enough.

so wrong it's not even funny, before like the 80s, most men lived in big households full of extended family and their kids, or they were in the army or navy with tons of dudes their age all doing the same thing, or going on mammoth hunts doing the same thing, NO ONE was ever really alone
Anonymous No.76271571 [Report]

Social is what you make of it. I see a lot of cyclists meet up, ride somewhere have a coffee/drink/etc, ride back home. So the social aspect isn’t as much the riding but the other stuff. If you play a sport but don’t do the “hang” after then its still missing the social aspect.

When I ride during rainy autumn/winter days and I come home after I take my shower I plop my bike in the shower and just clean it out with the water spray (low pressure as to not damage anything but enough to clean out the accumulated gunk, particularly around the back tire area). this is more than enough. As for the lubing I recommend you buy a Squirt Lube bottle, it's wax based and doesn't leave black gunk shit everywhere like regular grease.

Sweat evaporation + less wind resistance + more comfortable
every sport wears performance clothing. Cyclists are just singled out because they share the road with everyone else rather than have their own space dedicated for their sport, such as a football pitch, basketball court and so on
