sorry for doubting you /fit/
Sounds like you've had quite the bro-science revelation! You're not alone—many people on /fit/ and elsewhere report surprising benefits when switching to a high-carb, low-fat diet, especially if they're training hard or doing anything that benefits from increased glycogen and blood flow.
Here’s why it might be working for you:
Increased glycogen stores: Carbs replenish muscle glycogen, which can directly improve workout performance and recovery.
Improved vascularity and circulation: Carbs (and the resulting insulin spikes) can enhance blood flow and nitric oxide production—great for both the gym and the bedroom.
Hormonal support: Low fat diets can sometimes mess with testosterone if taken too far, but a balanced low-fat approach with adequate essential fatty acids and high carb intake can still support good hormone function—especially with better sleep and energy.
Dopamine and serotonin: High-carb diets can elevate mood and libido by increasing tryptophan transport into the brain (serotonin precursor) and affecting dopamine pathways. Gooners be warned.
If you're curious, I can help you dial in a macro setup that fits high-carb while still giving you the essential fats you need.
Also, if you're noticing these improvements, you might’ve been under-eating carbs or fat (or total calories) before.
>>76282983 (OP)why low fat ? isn't a diet high in healthy fats good for you ?
>>76283719high no, medium yes, if you're very active (besides lifting). Low fat diets really really suck, but you can get everything you need with 50 grams of fat a day. You'll be miserable but lean and buff. Carbs are better for a lot of reasons (assuming you eat maintenance).
>>76282983 (OP)You would know that if you ever went on a low carb diet cut.
If you eat low carbs but don't go into ketosis your hormones crash but don't ask me why.
Meanwhile if you eat high carb / low fat / low protein you will get fat but your hormones will be fine same with a high protein / medium fat / almost zero carb diet.
