You can't get rid of cheating on pull-ups entirely, but there's an absolute maximum of kipping/swinging and momentum you can add.
Cue in crossfit pull-ups.

It kind of makes sense. There are movements such as power rows or power shrugs and such, so people doing kip ups still find a point of failure at some point where they can't do more reps.

If you do any kind of sports and can't come up with a reason why kipping pull ups are great you are legitimately retarded and do not understand a thing you do or ever did in the gym. Stay DYEL for 4 lyfe, bruh. no cap fr fr

vanity
someone who's been doing proper pullups from a deadhang will exceed their deadhang reps to failure when doing kipping
the opposite is true with someone who's only been kipping and then seeing how many pulllups they can do from a deadhang
that's all you need to know

>from a deadhang
yeah, deadhang is muchos importandos, how would u fuck shoulders otherwise? how would u pinch nerves between scapulae? deadhang is a must !

the whole advantage of pullup vs lat pulldown is that u can and will veer your body and center of mass and leverages around the bar

yeah but butterfly pullups bring it to such an extreme that I doubt it still has any of the benefits of standard pullups.
Just using a rowing machine would likely be safer and more beneficial

>as if the flailing kipshit isn't going to snap or tear something
you're fucking your shoulders by not starting from a deadhang
your first movement is to retract the scapula which strengthens those muscles
whatever form of pullup you were going to do, you have to start from a deadhang anyway
so just do it. every. rep.

>you're fucking your shoulders by not starting from a deadhang
it's the other way arund bot, deadhang is bad for shoulders AND kipshit is form deadhang, cause it's the most efficient "form"
>whatever form of pullup you were going to do, you have to start from a deadhang anyway
hey bot, tell me what is stopping me from jumping into lockoff and never going to deadhang while doing pullups? is there some law of physics i am breaking?

and u mean scapular depression not retraction, DEPRESSION BOT :d
>so just do it. every. rep.
i do not feel the need to, at all bot, whenever i want i can pull myself up, i can do slow muscle up as long as i remember trying it first time lol, actually i stopped pullups (and all rows) years ago :D huge lat is the second most overrated muscle after gargantuan vastus lateralis from squats (and obscene adductors, don't forget all conventional squat variants build enormous adductors)

if i had pullup bar i would be doing one arm lockoffs i think, maybe, not sure, but it's too much hussle to make one so i don't care, arm over arm rope climb no problem completely cold - i'm good here :D
