Because everywhere I go outside of 4chan people recommend the OP, I am new to lifting weights and I just use some old dumbbells from my brother, now I will look into those because they seem nice, would any one from amazon do fine you think? I do not own powerblocks

I use the core fitness ones on a stand. The sheer convenience of it gives me no room for excuses. Back when I just had a couple dumbbell handles with collars and plates they would spend more time on the floor than anywhere else because I hate swapping that shit out for different exercises.

I recommend the powerblocks because the mechanism is simple and proven and the chinesium version can often be found on sale for ~50% off.

I have the bowflex ones. They're fine. They don't feel super durable, but if I'm slamming them around that'a on me. Built my own stand for them.

There's no expansions for them, but I feel like an enterprising fellow with a mill could machine heavier plates out of cheap iron plates. There may be a market for it, even.

Adjustable are way faster to change weights around on, a few seconds at most, loadables will take you a minute or more. This saves time as you spend less time fiddling around with your weights between sets. Fixed weights take up a ton of space and they often aren't available in every tiny increment you might need. You might be stuck at 45 for a month but when you try to go up to 50 your form falls apart, you need 47.5 but they

Loadable have the advantage in granularity, you can buy little half lb plates giving you the most control over the weight.

So it depends on what you want which one is most appealing. Fixed weights can be cheap but take up a ton of space and can leave gaps in various weight ranges. Adjustables allow you to change weights around quickly and easily but are typically more expensive, Loadables allow you the most freedom, are often fairly cheap, but take longer to adjust.

Haha, nevermind. I went looking to see if there's any iron plates for these on the market. There aren't. What there is, though, is a recall for every bowflex 552 ever made.

I'm not bothering with that, even though it looks like I'd be eligible for full refund or whatever because I got them after April 2024. Sounds like people have issues with plates falling off of them. There's no real replacement available for them atm, though, and I'm fully capable of fixing anything that breaks.

Unless you're a complete ectomorph you're going to outgrow these quickly, just buy plates and load them up to empty handles

I inherited a set from Dad because he got too old to work out. They work pretty good, they've held up for like 20 years so far.

>>76302561 (OP)
I recommend Yes4all, they're not as quick to adjust as the power locks but they're much cheaper and it's kinda fun screwing the locks on and off.

Because anything larger than 10lb cast iron is unwieldy so you have to get a shit ton of those, which you can't use for your barbells. And then you run out of sleeve room on the dumbbells if you go too heavy, and the loading/unloading is slow af. Try doing supersets or dropsets with loadables

Waaaaay back in the day I managed to use a sporting goods store to get them for 30% off. It’s 2.5-90lbs and takes two cubic feet of floor space why the fuck would you spend thousands of dollars to set up an 8ft rack of dumbbells in your house?

I'd love to get them if they weren't fucking 450 bucks minimum, which is insane for some steel weights with an arguably cool concept.

No, I wouldn't recommend those. What the hell are they anyway? They look like miniature suicide booths.
Just buy oly compatible dumbell handles and some plates with them. Then you can expand with a barbell afterwards without having redundant crap to trip over.

Got mine during covid. They werent cheap but fwiw, i can probably resell them for most if not all of my investment back. That said, i don't see why I would do that. These + my adjustable bench + pull up /dip station are my home gym, and its never been more convenient to work out.

Not gonna lie, I used to laugh at adjustable dumbbells—thought they were for boomers and home gym cope—until I got a pair of PowerBlocks. Bro, life changed. No more clunky spinlocks or wasting 20 mins swapping plates mid-superset. These things are compact, solid as hell, and made me actually look forward to lifting at home. I’ve gained more consistent strength in 6 months than I did in years of half-assed gym visits. If you’re still on the fence, get off it. PowerBlocks turned my bedroom into a dungeon of DOMS and discipline.
