To answer your question OP marionette lines form from specific facial expressions, along with posture and tension, such as subconsciously shortening the platisma muscle. Collagen and facial fat loss is eventual but when you pair it with specific habits you get signature wrinkles that vary from each individual.
It’s my own opinion but I feel people who get marionette tend to be stressed all the time, permanently tense their neck and upper back and have a particular resting face with the mouth pointing downwards, probably from clenching as well. You can predict them forming on someone from their posture, you can also look at their family to see the trend too.
I have nasolabial folds because I sleep on my side with my face smashed into the pillow, I don’t have upper forehead lines because I don’t make that expression often. Wrinkles occur from holding or repeating facial expressions for the majority of the time. I frown in my sleep from grinding so I use Botox to prevent 11s.
