How do you extract data to measure your progress?
Anonymous No.76316812 [Report]
Try this app called Gym Keeper. Amazing features. has all the tracking you need. backs up. make programs. aggregate data for view. Its paid but worth it. comes with free trial. have been using it for 4 years.

Fitnotes gives you the data in a workout history and a graph and has an 1rm calculator included. For me that's sufficient. I haven't checked thoroughly, but maybe there is an option somewhere to extract the (graph) data to plot for yourself in excel

It's a qol feature. being able to have one app in which you have multiple routines, previous weight and reps and notes all in your current workout, a timer that you can easily adjust, exercises you can replace, time of workouts etc. and most have these features while being completely free. why wouldn't you use it? so dumb question
Anonymous No.76317120 [Report] >>76317260
Used to be pen and paper but it became cumbersome to use in the gym, especially when I already had my phone with me anyway for music. I use Hevy. Not sure why I picked it desu but I did. It's decent. Lets me know when I hit new PBs, calculates my 1RM, has how to tabs for each exercise and I like the charts it gives after each workout, week and month. I don't bother with the social media aspect since none of my friends or family lift
Anonymous No.76317126 [Report]
>>76317118
No I wouldn’t use it, I don’t even take my phone to the gym, I lift with my bros and have fun, mostly go by feel and chase the pump. I don’t need data to casually lift to look good at the beach.
Anonymous No.76317260 [Report]
>>76317120
I used Hevy too and paid for it so I can have more routines. Its fine I guess. It doesn't have anything that helps with periodization which is kind of stupid. Like my current goals are adding seripus weight to certain lifts so I'm doing training blocks and I just have to remember to add weight myself and when I plan to deload so I can't just go to the gym and do the workout I have to stop and update shit real quick before I start. Otherwise it's fine.

I've been using an app called Gym Day. It's free with no ads, but there are some premium features locked behind a fee. Fortunately that fee can be a one-time purchase instead of a monthly subscription. That's largely what attracted me to the app in the first place.
Functionally, it gets the job done. Create your routine, track your performance, etc. It does suck that there's no algorithm to help with progressive overload though.
If someone made a free version of the RP Hypertrophy app with the algorithm helping with progressive overload, deloads, and overall performance, that'd be based.

Yes I'm competing with the past me. Old me was a bitch who could only rep 115 for 5. New me is a bitch who can rep 195 for 5. Seeing how far I've come real time with stats gives me the mental strength I need to become stronger than the bitch I was before

>>76318205
Yes, you can preset your workouts and even auto copy sets/reps/weights the next time you add the respective exercise to your next workout day.
This makes it a lot easier, as you just need to update according to your progress, e.g. move the weight higher or add more reps.
Anonymous No.76318836 [Report]
I used to write them down after I trained. This made the most sense to me at the time and I could compare training sessions. I’d log what I did, how much and how heavy and summarise observations at every rest period.

The applications are far more in depth but this gave me a better understanding of what I had done and what improvement I had made because it was me writing it. If you are starting out I would probably go for an app on your phone but if you are training toward a specific goal with experience and time under your belt then pen and paper is beneficial

in my head. and when I'm really in a complex bulking phase, I bring a sheet of unlined printer paper and use a pen. I then put these pieces of printer paper in an indexed folder when I return to my house. I don't use a phone at the gym at all. I have a knockoff non-apple ipod shuffle that I put as many songs on as I want, and has basic playlist functionality. have chineseium earbuds that sound great and cost 50 bucks. I dont have my phone at the gym at all. all my timing and splits are done on my $10 casio watch, but I also have a lap/split timer that I can set down next to me that cost $15.

I'm a millennial and I really can't understand why everyone is so addicted to their devices. retards just scrolling tiktok and insta wasting time or focus. during my 30-90s between sets I'm focusing on feeling my muscles and joints and mentally preparing for the next set.

Used to work on the play store so i still I love trying a bunch of apps and testing everything. i use both android and iOS tho.

I kept 3 out of all the ones I tried in this space:

>Cronometer - best food logging app out there, while the ux is a bit off it beats all those hambeast dieting apps
>Form.AI - apple gave me an ad for this and got it for the lulz just to trash on it but actually seems to work really nice, helped me fix buttwink
>Progression - best and simplest lift tracking IMO. UX is terribly simple but the best thing to me is this stopwatch that pops up on your screen
