>decide to learn how to play tennis so I can join a club and potentially make friends
>buy a racquet from a guy on Facebook
>at night go to a local park with a special wall erected for people to bounce balls off
>try to learn how to do the strokes forehand and backhand playing ‘tennis’ with myself and serving
>after 2 weeks of practice attend my first tennis meet up at this club in my city
>I’m the only person there who has never played a game of tennis before
>everyone else came with their friends and I already feel embarrassed at being the only person out of 13 who is there alone
>it’s literally not even a ‘meet up’ it’s just the courts being open and everyone is left to organise themselves and play social games
>I’m by myself and have no idea what to do so I hang around the sidelines of one of the courts awkwardly
>some random family ‘adopt’ me and let me play doubles with them and their 13 year old daughter
>get absolutely destroyed by this child repeatedly
>mother implicitly asks if I’m intellectually disabled because she works in the disability sector
>tennis open day ends and the courts go back to being their usual rent by the hour thing
>go home just as friendless as I was before

Tennis is a tough one because you need a lot of skill to even get a game going. There are group beginner tennis classes, which would be great for you. You can do private lessons, but they're a bit expensive (like 70AUD for an hour).

Soccer is easier for noobs. Easier to practice alone. More of a sausage party than tennis, less of a sausage party than martial arts.

Martial arts are great, you don't need to know anyone. But they're heavily male, and because it's so primal the women are drawn to the coaches and the experts, not the noobs. So if you want to make male friends it is great. Pretty bad way to meet women though, at least at first.

>Martial arts
I have this malformed artery in my brain which makes me prone to seizures if I knock my head. I still get seizures every few months but as a result I’m not allowed to drive and couldn’t play contact sports as a kid.

this. Also iirc there's an app to organize tennis matches with strangers which should work pretty well in cities, but I doubt you'll find absolute beginners on there

not sure what you mean, you just have an instructor teaching to a small group of people at the same time

Sounds like a problem with the organizer honestly. Why wasn't he helping a new member acclimate? Especially when there was only 13 people? Next time that happens just talk to the person in charge.
Anyways, you want to try to join something early in the season. If you join midway then groups will have already formed and it will be harder to butt in.

posting about your s/o's failures in public is basically treachery, i'd be madder than if she cheated on me and never posted about it in public

The truth is that social dynamics and social structures are very similar in most situations and a low level loser in one group will more than likely also be a low level loser in any other group he joins unless he makes drastic changes beforehand. A timid loser from college will more than likely still be a timid loser at work no matter what his workplace is. And a friendly life-of-the-party type guy would make friends in your situation even if he barely knew how to hold a tennis racket.

So you either have to make extreme drastic very hard changes about yourself from the ground up or accept that you're a low level loser who will always be automatically put on the lowest level of the social hierarchy.

this probably belonged on /adv/ but whatever.

This shit takes time man. The reality is that making friends isn't this magical thing that everyone always wants to do; part of the adaptation that makes us social inherently makes us want to reject loners and people who aren't good at things
>Grug no have tribe and no can hunt deer, fuck Grug lmfao
If tennis is gonna be your way of making friends, you're gonna have to train hard and git gud before it happens. I'm not saying don't do it; you'll probably be fine once you start making friends. But you're essentially gonna have to prove yourself like a protagonist in some goofy anime

Tennis is a very hard sport to learn, and the people that play it are all either egotistic or introverted weirdos. Indoor climbing is fun, and the people who do it all seem quite chilled out

If he never played soccer as a kid, he can forget about it. People spend decades honing their skills, his only hope is if he works with a bunch of nerds who want to play it for the first time since they were kids

How do you find meetups for calisthenics? Sounds pretty tough to find, unless you live in new york.

This is going to be mega gay/autistic for most people but airsoft. Lots of cardio, decent strength workout depending on gear. Tons of people around willing to talk about what they're rocking and love getting new people into the sport, yeah it can be cringe and there's a lot of faggy people but I've made a lot of friends and memories doing it. If firearms/larp interest you at all then I'd try it once.

OP here.

I live in Australia and there are loads of tennis courts but it's all rent-a-court stuff and the 'social' aspect of it is you bringing your own friends to play tennis with, and then you entering in little competitions with the assumption that you already know how to play.

I could get a coach to teach me how to hit the ball and stuff but I'd still be shit out of luck in terms of finding people to play with
>>76329222
I'll see if it's in my country. Some of the tennis court complexes have like a site where you can book a slot with some random but it would be complete luck of the draw in terms of their skill level and whether they would be down to tolerate some clown who hits the ball into the net every serve and return.

Yeah I'm a friendless loser, I was a friendless loser at university and I'm a pariah at work too.
