For me it has to be judo due to how cool the throws can look and how satisfying it feels when you hit a perfectly timed sweep or throw and your oppontent just efortlessly flies through the air.

i train both judo and bjj with judo being my more primary art.
There tends to be a bigger focus on technique over raw strength in bjj than judo and dont understand why im expected to go really rough as a new white belt in bjj.

i worded that wrong
there tends to be a bigger focus on technique in judo vs bjj which is more abour raw strength.
I hate being told to be rougher in bjj then in judo focusing more on technique to land a point.
My bad

Really? I've found the opposite to be true. Bjj guys tend to go much lighter than judo guys.

Judo is one I'm very interested in but most places don't have gyms.

BJJ is everywhere but pretty expensive. It's a nice way to make friends though.

Boxing/Muay Thai is the most fun and practical.

BJJ is less intense in that there are dudes that just get high and focus on technique. In judo it's basically Greco Roman with a gi so it's much more intense physically.

BJJ is nice in that you can do it and compete into your 50s while for most martial arts you're pretty much SOL in your 30s.

Gracie lies, you get your neck cranked constantly, knees often get fucked up like every other joint, after 30 you're just fishing for injuries.

Judo is so unbelievably aesthetic I don't understand how people prefer diving face first into someone's crotch or aggressively cuddling than tossing a motherfucker like a sack of potatoes at terminal speeds.

I've trained judo and muay thai
Loved them both
Now moved somewhere new and my options are a boxing club and judo gym
Kindof unsure, I was never a good enough boxer to be comfortable with it, my defence especially is shit, so there's easy gains to be made basically
Judo is obviously great but I also rock climb and I don't want to increase the risk of my fingers getting ripped apart tenfold
Either way I'm keen to avoid headaches but that can't be helped with either of them
I'll probably box since I feel less beat up striking than grappling, but no matter which one I choose I'll feel guilty about not doing the other

you need to understand they conditioned themselves overtime to be able to do that at their age.
If you take someone who hasnt done sports since high school that's like 60 throw in judo they're gonna break something or are likely too

Oh I don't mean old old I mean like "unc" old (late 20s-early 30s)

I feel like that's the last time where you can still start martial arts and not be too old to be shit, especially if you're in decent shape. It's like how elite athletes will get into fighting at an older age and still do decent.

gym culture is pretty varied for BJJ. Some gyms will have joe rogan flow roller types that come in high off their ass. Some gyms will be fiercely competitive wrestling types that train with a lot of intensity and physicality. some will be the ultra respectful and tradition focused Brazilian gyms. some will be the modernized no gi/mma american gyms that worship black men for some reason despite providing the most well rounded curriculum for real fighting. sounds specific but iykyk

yeah it really only works for older people if they exclusively roll with people who will play nice and flow roll with them. if you are 50s+ you should probably just go do water polo or golf or some shit if you aren't conditioned to handle martial arts still.

This was an excellent post except for the random black men shade. Don't even understand the hate when people recognize the GOATs of MMA to either be Mighty Mouse, Silva, or Jones who are all black.

As a spectator? Nothing beats sumo.

Kino aesthetics that makes you feel like it's the 1500s or something, /fit/ but fat athletes, no women allowed, ringside judges and spectators constantly at risk of getting crushed, the fighters constantly at risk of landing neck-first on the concrete floor, neat autism rituals of drinking magic water and throwing exorcism salt.

Also the rules are rules, nothing like in MMA where referees will tell fighters "let go of the shorts" 10 times per round with 0 consequence.
