I've never tried seating. Standing feels just right, I don't see a reason to do it seating. Harder to set up, more uncomfortable, probably more dangerous.

standing has much greater stability requirements and is therefore more taxing, but it obviously looks cooler. they're both great.

might as well do dumbbell shoulder press if you're seated
a barbell seated makes no sense sitting down

Iโ€™m 15-20% stronger on seated barbell shoulder press vs strict standing overhead press. Itโ€™s not overblown. It may seem overblown if your standing overhead press is actually a push press like 60% of fags

I'm currently doing 140x10 with dbs. I tried doing 135 lbs on a barbell yesterday and could only manage 8 reps. Seated definitely is more stable but I like the challenge brought by the standing variation

No matter how hard you try to keep your back straight, sitting always places your spine in a compromised position. Adding weight in that position only raises the impact on your spine health.

If you're gonna do OHP, just do it in a way that let's you move the most weight. To me, that's the main reason to do the exercise in the first place. For every other purpose, just pick a different exercise.

Standing is good as the main exercise for the day.
Seated at a slight incline so you can press vertically clearing your chin is good as a high volume finisher/accessory.

Seated are better overall just on the account that you do not need to worry about stability. You're less likely to subconsciously cheat and you the strain on your body is localized (shoulders, where you want it) instead of also having to keep your core and erectors in check.

standing activates core and body as a whole.
sitting is more isolation and less injury prone.
each has its benefit.

Both have their pros and cons
Seated allows more focus into shoulders and strict pressing
Standing helps work your core stabilizers but you can also push press for more reps or higher weight as well
Sitting kinda sucks though because it really loads my spine and I can feel it with 135 plus but also standing kinda suck because of the full central nervous system activation to hold the extra weight will impede your ability to do more reps
I do both. Push press, clean and jerk, standing strict, sots. It's all fun and effective.

Standing, cheating a rep is fine as long you're cheating it consistently and can achieve failure on the proper muscles without getting stuck in the hole early.
