Just give me the details here anons. Does doing this shit (swimming) actually help build muscle mass at all?
For reference I used to be a dynamo FAT fuck at 280lbs. I went from 280 to 152 via diet and swimming, for 1.5 years I swam about 3-4 times a week (1-2 hours) and managed my diet. The thing is....while I LOST THE FAT I have never looked toned or muscular to any degree.

With that said my goal is not to look like a roid monkey or even have huge muscle mass, I just want to look lean and with visible muscular vasculature. Does swimming help at all? should I try swimming while at a surplus instead of the deficit I had back then? I miss the swimming sessions but goal these days is to build some visible muscle (especially abs) and idk if swimming can help.

you gotta lift. the last 50m olympic swim champ, aussie fella, i forget his name, said he got way faster when he focused on gym lifts instead of swim repeats. and he was already at national champ level

Most retards use olympic swimmers to make their case that swimming alone builds muscle and burns fat; it doesn't.
Olympians are considered the best of the best. They workout on top of practicing their sport.
For a better representation look at high school/college level swimmers. They're all slim with little muscle.
Also you'll never have "huge muscle mass" or look like a roid monkey accidentally so don't worry about it you retard.

How do I get this with swimming? should I eat at maintenance while swimming?

no you gotta lift to get toned. i also spent a couple years only swimming thinking it was enough and while it is a great way to lose weight my body didn't really change shape for the best until i started lifting heavy this year

eat at maintenance and workout; swimming is cardio.
You don't even have to lift weights; do calisthenics. The 2 guys on the far left and right workout while everyone else doesn't.
Look at their chest. shoulders, and abs compared to the other guys.

>abs
Is it really THAT hard to workout abs? you don't even need a machine and it takes like 7 minutes at most to go through a workout routine.
Abs just do not need 2 hours at the gym is what I'm saying.

Swimming while you are growing will give a nice v-taper, but swimming alone will give you minimal muscle gains (all pro-level swimmers lift and roid).
Swimming is the best and the most fun form of cardio (after cycling, then running), especially if you have underwater headphones (bone conducting ones are the best).
For the best gains you want to use flippers always, hand paddles from time to time, especially when isolating the upperbody.
All you realistically need is breaststroke and butterfly, crawl is for DYELs.

Don't mind him, he's just an edgy contrarian skinnyfat DYEL who can't handle the truth when it's thrown at him for free. He spends his free time lurking every /fit/ thread to find my posts while I live in his head rent free.

I'm training for triathlon so I swam 1.5K non-stop today in open water, felt good.
