How does /fit/ wind down at the end of the day and get ready for sleep? I lift at the end of the day, and the cortisol spikes are fucking with my gains. I end up tossing and turning for hours and wake up feeling like shit.

Thing's I've tried:

>herbal tea

Out of all of those only herbal tea (I'm assuming lemon balm and chamomile) and melatonin actually aid in falling asleep. Also melatonin will spike your cortisol further if you won't fall asleep soon after taking it.

You've answered your own question, you mong. Work out earlier, also Go on evening walks and put away any screens at last 1h before sleep.

Try more stretching after workouts, long static holds. Like 10-15 minute stretching routine post-workout, make your protien shake and get stretching.
If I don't stretch, my muscles will be firing on and off all night like Michael J Fox.

I tried all of those things but at the end of the day is a mental thing and there is nothing you can do about it. It’s embedded into your brain that you are a bad sleeper. I don’t think lifting in the evening has to do it. I know people that finish their workouts at 10 PM and by 11 they are in the deepest sleep possible.
