Was he right though? Is one set to failure and max focus on recovery the right way to do it? Is more less and are we doing to much?

I kinda loath the whole idea of doing almost fuck all in the gym because I like to feel like Iโ€™ve actually done some work and not just stopped by the gym.

More intensity, more gains. More volume, more gains. You don't have to autistically hyperfocus on one or the other. Instead of doing 1 set with maximum intensity, do 2 sets with very high intensity. Work out 2-3 times per week. Literally all you need.

The first part is right. But he dramatically overestimated how long the various aspects of recovery took. You can hit a body part every 3 to 5 days with a minimal amount of high intensity sets and expect to gain.
