Focus on what lifting does for you internally and functionally; aesthetically, you'll always find something to nitpick, but you can't argue with the newfound ability to touch your toes, to tie your shoes without getting out of breath, to run again. Even after a very short time, you'll start to feel more confident, have more energy, experience less joint pain, sleep better. If you have depression, this won't cure it but it will make it less severe. You may even find yourself with small but noticeable improvements in your cognitive function. I suggest you also take up some kind of martial art; I got into HEMA a month or so ago and I think I'm quite a bit happier now, since it's not just extra exercise and a skill to take confidence from but also a place to be social with people I share interests with.
