Hey guys,

Started working out and I am trying to quit all booze forever for physical and mental health. I get fucking miserable and depressed without beers and wine.

I went 70 days but relapsed. I want to be the best i can be for me and family. It is starting to catch up bad.

Something that sticks? I have a beachhouse and season tickets to nfl. I get lonely working home alone. I love being buzzed because life is boring.

Any advice for a supplement? Pic rel.

Hmn, yeah idk if i wouldsuggest them if you have mental health issues. I took mostly low doses in the range of 1-2g, had a few "trips" that were really transformative for me. search around the web, there are some studies you may be able to voluntwer for that are specific for the treatment of alcoholism and they would be better equipped to assess you suitability for it. In any case good luck and take it one day at a time

Im almost 2 yrs sober after almost dieing of liver failure (750ml - 1.25 liter every night for 5 years)

Everyone I know who got sober waited until it got so bad they hit rock bottom and fucked up their entire life. Its easier to stay sober when you have flashbacks of the booze ruining every relationship youve ever had and spent years of your life either drunk or going thru delerium tremens.

Maybe attend an AA meeting. Not to do the dumb steps they want you to do like accepting jesus etc. But really listen to the stories of the people there and how much they waffle stomped their entire lives down the drain and try to use that as motivation, since sound like youre in the early phases of this snowballing into a real nasty thing.

This worked for me too.

I took 5g of golden teacher and saw my life from the perspective of others, and saw every moment of my life, relived every memory as if it was occurring the first time.

Saw how mediocre I really was. Saw how lucky I was to be alive. Saw how much alcohol contributed negatively and was at the centre of so many occasions where I fell short of where I wanted to be. The desire to drink basically disappeared.

I think everyone should do it

it took me a while but I transitioned from whiskey almost daily to beer, then diet beer and then finally sparkling water (there's some super exotic zero alcohol, zero calorie beer from both Suntory and Asahii but its pretty expensive to get in the states)

The trick fast trick is to get your brain to swap overindulging in beer at social events to over indulging in something health(ier) at similar event

Hey friend, good on you for the honesty, that’s the most useful tool you can have in quitting.
Here’s a few things you should know
> each time a person tries to quit a substance they are more likely to succeed than the previous time, so relapses happen but you get better at quitting with each attempt
> people who are able to state a reason why they want to quit (as you did in your post) are significantly more likely to succeed, even though it may take multiple attempts
> most people take multiple attempts before they get it - those who succeed are those who keep trying
> people who start a new hobby (especially fitness) are more likely to succeed in a quitting
> find the others who are trying to do what you’re doing, especially those who have made it out
Chin up, chest out. Do not be afraid. You’re already doing it, just keep going. I am stoked for how far you’ve come already even if that’s hard to see right now. You’re gonna make it, anon.

Empathy wasn't necessarily what I'd call it, though it kind of depends on how you want to define it - perspective, empathy, self awareness are all fine terms. I'll try and explain a bit without it coming across as mystic or druggy bullshit.

I've had a good life. I've been personally, professionally successful etc. A big part of what I came to realise on the mushroom trip was that deep down, and kind of underpinning every part of me was this base assumption that I was a little bit special - that I had a high IQ, that I am good looking, that I should be treated like I'm special or better than the average person. Main character energy basically.

I saw my significant life experiences, memories, moments - good and bad - in hyper vivid detail, only without this underlying assumption and realised that while there were times I'd done good things, a lot of the time I was mediocre, lazy, entitled or simply a little bit deluded about how awesome I was. I absolutely saw how alcohol fuelled these tendencies. I also saw how lucky I was that I'd made it to the point in life I have despite this.

It felt like looking in the mirror and instead of seeing what I wanted to, I saw what actually, objectively was - good and bad. Felt pretty profound and made me want to invest more in my relationships with family and loved ones, because the world won't remember me - and doesn't care about me - but they will and do.

I should also say that I'm not generally a drug user, and that I left the experience not wanting to take a dose of mushrooms like that again.

It helped me, and I hope it helps you all out there.

Pfft, bet you still checkin' yourself out in every mirror, thinkin' you special. That "main character" vibe ain't vanish that quick. And now you all about family 'cause the world don’t give a damn? Cute. What, you expect a cookie for figurin' out you ain’t the center of the universe? Tell me, how you holdin’ onto that “profound” revelation when you back to your regular flexin’?

You know, just because you're a nigger, doesn't mean you have to type like one on the internet. Maybe you should take some shrooms and examine why you need to inject your retarded english and grammar into conversations which don't need it.

I'm not saying I turned my life around. I am saying that it helped me become aware of things about myself that I didn't like, and helped how I make decisions about what I do. Like stopping drinking - which is what OP wants to do.

Read the research if you want to be a sceptic. google it- there's plenty out there.
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/2795625

> Percentage of heavy drinking days during the 32-week double-blind period was 9.7% for the psilocybin group and 23.6% for the diphenhydramine group, a mean difference of 13.9%; (95% CI, 3.0–24.7; F1,86=6.43; P=.01). I tried kombucha for the first time the other day and it was pretty good. I tastes like a fruity beer. I just got it from wal-mart and prefer the pomegranate blueberry flavor.

This. Scattered brain is actually just adhd and living in a fucked up modern world.
Mindfulness, meditation and getting out in nature helps. Paint, draw, build, break, go birdwatching.
OP if you want to kick booze try NAC. If its bad, baclofen can help but your doctor must prescribe. And if you truly need to get fucked up smoke weed instead.

quitting alcohol is not going to fix your life. quitting booze will have a rebound effect and give you extra energy and make you feel better for about a month or maybe even less. that's it. alcohol didn't make you a mediocre loser with a shit job who sits around playing video games and jerking off in your free time (or whatever your problems are.) you can quit alcohol and you will still be that same person. most men throughout history who shaped the world were heavy drinkers. there is definite health drawbacks to heavy drinking, but unless you are just simply fat, alcohol is not the cause of your problems and quitting alcohol is not going to solve them.

Maybe they would, but sounds like a problem that should be solved with therapy or self reflection to find the root of your apathy then finding purpose to fuel your drive.

Anon i have been married for 21 years (yest) and have 2 kids and a nice home. I have it all but peace of mind. I am considered agnostic and dont vidya anymore. A lot of this stems from depression for sure. I walk a lil everyday and am conscious of what i eat. I need to drop some - 5’11 180 but gets harder after 50. There is that empty void and lack of excitement. Booze gave that to me. I would cook for the family, clean, redid whole house, chainsaw trees ans split…… with booze. Almost like it wS coke or something.
Maybe im just getting old -i am

But essentially you are 100 percent correct
Booze was a symptom and relief of something greater
Just sick of thinking anon
