a dip is a vertical push, a bench is a horizontal push, therefore the real bench alternative is the pushup/weighted pushup which is also a horizontal push

One or the other will suffer, try doing both back to back. They both do the full chest (arguably dips more). Why not just go to town on one and then move onto something smaller like flies?
