its only a meme insofar that for most people, we do not give 2 shits about how much weight you can carry
knowledge of doing the compounds is important still, so its all good. Depending on how trained you are, just pick whatever lifts you like and progressive overload while going down on body fat%. At least thats what you should be doing for aesthetics

It's only a meme if you stick to it for longer than a month or two. It's literally called "STARTING" strength, it's meant to jump start your strength for more intermediate workout routines, but then you'd see some idiots who stick with it for years building this t-rex physique.

Yes. Do it anyways. SS's biggest win is that you can just plug in and gain consistency at the gym. When you are starting out you will gain muscle no matter what you do.

If you dont want to gain too much bodyweight, grind it out for aslong as you can anyway.
For example once you can do no more 2 reps per set you should probably stop putting weight on the bar each time you train.

What in the fuck do you think 2 months of SS is going to get you?

Follow it until you've exhausted the limits of linear progression on every lift. Once it stall take that lift and bloat it out into 3 sets of 2 exercises for that group with like a single rep in reserve.

It's only bad if your primary goal is to look good and you are too stupid to switch to hypertrophy focused training so you end up getting fat and spend 4 hours a week in the squat rack.

I wanna in2 it because I’ve always been relatively fit (lots of calisthenics as a kid, basically always been able to bust out a few sets of pull-ups/push ups) but never really been a big gym/weights guy. I always feel like I have wonky form on a lot of the barbell stuff because I don’t have it in my muscle memory, so my main goal really is just establishing that for myself up to like 1-2 pl8s. Doubt I’ll get too heavy into T-Rex mode like what I see from other anons

It's a meme because you have limited time in your life.

SS can make you strong, that part is possible.
However SS does not often make you aesthetic.
Meaning while you are strong, you will spend years often reversing the damage done to your body where you look like a fucking woman (huge feminine legs and ass).
Not to mention it often seems to end with people putting on excessive fat which aggravates ALL problems physically and aesthetically.

So for the majority of people who aren't LIVING IT, they will end up wasting much time in their lives.
Which means it's better to just do another program even if it's slower initially, because the end result is better.

It's good for the beginner phase where you can add weight to bar every workout even tho the core movements lack upper body and arms volume and you will stall the overhead press first. There's nothing wrong with doing 3x5 for some while until you can no longer add weight every workout and then do something else.

I guess you would get a bit more volume if you did the bench and ohp 3x5+ where you do 5, 5 and the last set amrap.

Most people have done some form of it in high school.

SS is fine. You will get strong, you will learn good technique on the major compounds, and this will put you ahead of most people who just go to the gym and “work out.”
Just remember that it’s a beginner program so don’t stay on it for too long. Find an intermediate program with more upper body volume after a few months. Texas Method has a lot of continuity with SS, so a lot of people do that and have success. Body building programs will be very different from what rippetoe teaches and that’s fine if that’s your goal.
