Getting 4 wisdom teeth removed tomorrow under general anaesthetic.

I’m kinda nervous cause I’ve never been put under before, anyone got any insight for what to expect?

Pace yourself with the drugs. Dont pop more than what you need becaude you will definitely need to stretch out the few they give you over a few days.

Have a friend your size or bigger than you with you.

Buy a lot of protein shakes, pudding, protein yogurt. You wont want to go out immediately after so buy them beforehand.

Dont smoke or vape. If you do vape, let a lot of air into your mouth as you inhale.

If possible, ask the doctor if they could extract your blood to put a bigger clot into your gums.

Your face will bloat. Thats okay.

Regarding getting put under, they just stick the needle in your arm, stick the thing in your nose and after a minute you wake up barely conscious with a nurse telling you not to talk as you continue to talk and you feel so comfy from the drugs youre on

What will suck is the pain after you run out of opioids. I was lucky enough to get 8 doses but that wasnt enough.

From the procedure:
>Mild pain, maybe, but it'll be over relatively quick

From the recovery
>Bleeding from your mouth for 4-5 days maybe
>General body weakness
>You'll have to consume food in liquid form so prepare supplies accordingly: soups, yogurt, protein shakes, fruit, etc. Have a blender at hand
>Won't be able to speak well or at all for a couple of days
>Inflammation, so follow drug prescriptions
>Take the antibiotics they'll prescribe per their instructions

That's it. It sucks but it's a relief to get over it

I got put under for a colonoscopy. What I remember was the nurse telling me to breathe normally after he affixed the nose tube, and then I had the feeling of waking up from the most refreshing sleep ever, and I asked how long it was going to take, and somebody told me it was already over. The whole thing seemed to take less time than it took to read this post.

I moved to a second world country and had to get my wisdom teeth removed and thought I'd be knocked out and then given drugs when I wake up. Nope. They put a needle in my gums and then took a hammer, chisel, drill, pliers, and everything else on the torture rack to my mouth and then I went to work the next day. It wasn't even that bad. My face wasn't swollen either. I swear to God it's like nothing I've heard of is ever real.

They swab you with some shit to numb the area
Then they inject you with shit to really numb the area
Then they pull the fuckers out
You might see the dentist bicep vein flexing as he twists your head to yank them out
They might have to break the tooth to take pieces
When it's all over don't suck on the wounds because they will just keep bleeding if you do that

Back around 2010 or thereabouts, when I got my wizzies removed, they sent me home with like 30 doses of oxycodone. Holy fuckin shit I got addicted right away. If i remember correctly, they were 5mg. I was taking one or two and just laying in bed watching Archer and sinking into euphoria. My mom was a fucking brilliant strategist and flushed them all down the toilet after a couple days of this. I was pissed but man it probably saved my life. She was volunteering for the EMT guys at the time and mad kids in town were overdosing on opiates. Anyways I felt obliged to share.

OP the surgery isnt that bad, I wasnt even put under for it. They just gave me laughing gas and went to town. I was in heaven. If you're getting anesthesia you're just gonna wake up with a sore mouth. Worst part is not being able to eat real food for awhile.

Had 4 removed under semi general in the dentists chair after they had been infected.
All i remember is the drugs going in, then the dentist removing the brace from my mouth.
Recovery was fine, was insanely thirsty, but told to only sip for a day or two so the clots wouldn't dislodge.
Pain was actually less than while they'd been infected, only took the drugs as a curiosity, threw the rest.
Breath stank to hell after thanks to the infection.
9/10 - better than the infection, would recommend

OP here

Appreciate the replies

I'm pretty much at peace with what recovery will be like in terms of pain and not being able to eat properly

My biggest anxiety is the actual general anesthetic cause i just can't get my head around the experience of skipping time so suddenly (unless its similar to blacking out drinking)

So i guess it's more of a mental game about the unknown

Either way all these responses have been helpful, I picked a good surgeon and am spending a lot of money to get it done i know I'll be fine , just hating the anticipation

You really have nothing to fear, its hilariously easy getting gen anesthesia. You just count down from 10 and then wake up with it done. Its an absolute miracle of medicine. You wake up feeling quite well rested, too. If you were like, getting some huge invasive surgery, yeah, that'd be scary, but they're just takin some teeth out. You'll be fine bruv.

I had one of my wisdom teeth removed a couple of months ago, I was scared shitless. It actually wasn't that bad (local anesthesia btw) and the recovery was a-ok even though I couldn't open my mouth for 2 days. The one thing that I still remember vividly was the drill's noise but you'll be sleeping so it's all good.

I got 2 wisdom teeth out. They didn't put me under or give me any painkillers after. I don't think they even gave me any nitrous. Just local anesthesia. Felt crazy when they were yanking and twisting them out my jaw. I wouldn't wanna be put under. Who knows what they'll do to you. I know a girl who's dad was a dentist that went to prison for molesting his patients while they were passed out. It's quite common.

Everyone reacts different to anesthesia but you might be one of the unlucky few you reacts different to it. If you have some form of schizophrenia or neurodivergence then it might actual end up being literally hell for you like myself. Some people under anesthesia don’t go into a sleep or coma but rather there consciousness is awake but they can’t move there body and feel all the pain but you simply can’t scream see anything but just feel like you are hovering above your own body while everything hurts. If you ever had sleep paralysis then it’s like that but just with the pain on top of it. Then when you wake up it’s like a bad dream where you kinda remember it but it’s blurry and then slowly forget it.

But don’t be scared anon it’s very very rare so I’m 100% sure you are gonna be just fine.

Some people simply just DIE when given general anesthesia as well. It's always a risk and no way to predict it. That's why you have sign a waiver before they give it to you. No way I'd take that shit to get a tooth pulled.

Literally not even wrong. If you are one of the people on the planet that has a souls and not just an NPC I’d probably just take local anesthesia. You literally die if you go into full anesthesia and start astral projecting. If you don’t know wtf is going on you might get lost in the ethereal real and not find you way back to your body and some other entity take over you body or it simply doesn’t have a soul anymore. You wake up still feeling alive but kinda lobotomized or as if you a missing something part of you. You don’t have the same inner voice and everything feels hazy like a dream and you have brainfog for the rest of your life.

People will just call me a schizo but they are all NPCs and don’t have a soul so they just feel like falling asleep and waking up again.

Is it a requirement to be under anesthesia? I had two removed a few years ago and they just used localized anesthesia, so I just say there for an hour while they drilled to break up the teeth and pulled them out. I did'nt feel any hint of pain only mild discomfort from the drill vibrations and the spit hoover.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the all 4 idea but after he explained it getting all done meant 1 recovery and one expense and zero risk of dental issues in the future.

Aside from my wisdom teeth my oral hygiene is top tier according to them

Not sure where you’re from but I’m in Aus and they can only use general in proper surgery facilities, it’s too late to change things now anyway it’s all in motion - my main concern was just the feeling of being put under.

I have zero concern for my well being or the efficacy of the procedure I did more than enough research to know I’m in very good hands

I'm in Aus too - they did it at a dentist.
Only one was infected but suggested extracting all of them. I somewhat regret doing it, there's a reason we have those teeth.
Any time I could feel the drill I asked them to stop they just injected more local. After a half dozen extra top ups they refused any more but it was sufficient.
I much prefer to be awake & aware, chat with them and tell a joke or two, and the assistants are usually hot.
Signed up for private health cover a week prior, made my claim and paid a tiny gap and ditched the health cover within the month (insurers dont let you do this anymore).
If its a hospital just say you tested positive for covid, and you will be clear. That is, if you wish to back out in the 11th hour.
You will be fine if you go ahead, just have someone there with you.

I wonder if i even needed to have them removed: the oral surgeon was conveniently my dentists husband, and my dumbass parents never ask for second opinions.

I had it done in 2020. For free. I then had a double jaw surgery done in 2023. For free as well. God bless socialism.
Anyway, the worst thing about both was the tube they put in my throat. That irritated me badly, but other than that, it was a big nothingburger. But hey, that's just me, I react extremely well to everything. They even promised me opioids after the jaw surgery (extremely rare in Europe), but when they asked me about the pain afterwards, I was like "one, maybe two out of ten", so they just gave me some paracetamol, lol.

Thirteen years ago a dentist told me that my impacted wisdom teeth coming in sideways would definitely become painful and require surgery to remove.

The next time I saw a dentist was this year. They took x-rays and had no comment about anything. No pain ever came.

>Pace yourself with the drugs. Dont pop more than what you need becaude you will definitely need to stretch out the few they give you over a few days.
My younger brother got his taken out and they wrote him a prescription for a month's worth of oxycodone, America is bat shit insane it's no wonder we have a huge drug problem in the midwest

Dentists never got the drug memo. It’s really the last place you can go to and get that garbage prescribed instead of getting told to take Tylenol for a week. Byproduct of dentistry not being wrapped up in normal medical care I guess

Mine was also free, I had insurance. Also did you know if you make too much money national healthcare won’t cover you? Now show me average wage in euro land vs USA and remind me why I’m proud to be free

They also cut out a little bit of cancer while they were running a gay train on me, so it was a fair trade. It's not gay if you don't remember it.

It's like there's zero lapse in consciousness. You don't experience falling asleep and waking up - you just go from point A to point B. If you're like me (my internal monologue runs 24/7 no stopping) it will be like there's not even a break in your thoughts. You won't really feel panicky or anything because them drugs make ya feel alright.

Mine was local anesthesia, the dentist (female) took 30 freaking mins to get 2 teeth out, one of em I guess she didn't have enough strength to pull it out normally so she was literally picking up piece by piece that were left behind the gum and I was awake thru all of it

dont do it anon, its a jewish communist bug person conspiracy to fuck your teeth up for life so that they can make more money off you. just think about it for more than a few seconds. why did millions of years of evolution produce people with wisdom teeth? because it was a bad idea? dont trust these assholes. only get your wisdom teeth removed if they cause an actual problem. all the things that could happen are super fucking rare. you will regret it.

OP back again

I had the procedure without any issues

They wheeled me in and put me on the table, within 30 seconds the anaesthetist hooked me up to the IV and I was getting midazolam

I felt a very small rush as in “oh shit it’s beginning” which was followed very quickly by a wave of relaxation and I was like “Fuuuck, this is crazy. Oh sorry for swearing”

A few seconds later I was like “is this the same as heroin?” And then they were like it’s the same family

They didn’t even put the mask over me and next thing I knew I was dreaming and waking up in recovery. Apparently I was talking a bit before they actually put me to proper sleep but I have no recollection.

Pain is minimal and my face is still a bit numb but overall I’m really pleased with how it’s playing out.

Cheers again to those who gave their experience.

And for people who keep asking even though it’s been answered in the thread - surgery under GA was my only option given the position of the teeth and how close to nerves they were, the surgeon could work more precisely and quicker

And no I couldn’t just wait for a year while I trialed mewing or eating chewier foods (which I already do) these bad boys were sideways and stopped moving a long time ago and were just becoming an infection risk, which one already had an infection

Correction. The worst thing about both was that I didn't expect a UC for the jaw surgery so I didn't shave my private parts, and my already small penis looked even smaller, especially when a cute nurse was removing the tube, haha.

Thanks mate! So far no complaints - but it was just a day surgery practise so after I woke up I was out of there within 30 mins. I was still a bit loopy and I joked I could drive home to the nurse and she didn’t not think it was funny at all
