You don't have enough muscle. Start bulking and try again next year

Perhaps abs are a muscle, and we can induce hypertrophy through training them?

I can see my abs best when I'm tensing my core during an L-sit, something about the arms pushing down really makes them pop. Also, a cue I use is to push my belly out, which is kind of counterintuitive because initially it seemed to me like you should flatten your stomach while tensing your core to see them, but not so, the belly protruding helps engage them. Anyways, I think muscle control is under talked about when it comes to seeing your abs because the eventual goal is to see them without tensing, but it's nice to get a peek before that. Just experiment with a bunch of movements in the mirror.

I'm 5'9 and legit saw my abs for the first time at 150lb. Was barely lifting at the time (some health issues and had zero energy) so you may be close anon, don't give up.

Some extra motivation for you: my FWB at the time literally licked my stomach in front of my roommate when she saw me shirtless the first time kek (we hadn't seen each other for a few weeks prior to me losing the weight).

You should probably up your calories a bit tho and hit the gym.

next you're going to tell me the reason why I have small calves is because I save them for last and do minimal effort on them

Stop joking around anon, we all know that calves are the singular muscle that doesn't respond to training stimulus.

I've got 4 and they look great but that bottom bit of belly fat is what's stopping me from having the whole set and I'm well into sunken cost at this point

Jesus Christ. I'm 5'10 175 and I'm already considering giving up and bulking. Navy calc says I'm 13% bf. Will I see abs at 165? I want abs at least once before I die. I started as a 240 lb obeast, but I've never been truly lean.

Could be. It's not hanging or sagging loose like some pics I've seen, but I do have a bit.

Jesus fucking christ I can't comprehend how no retard in here has mentioned the BMR to OP. Get your basics right, retards.

>BMR
Is your basal metabolic rate, essentially the amount of energy you need to run your body in "inactive" mode, the amount of calories you'd burn in a day only resting in bed/not thinking.

>okay anon you faggot but why is BMR important
It's important because once you eat under your BMR for a longer period of time, guess what happens? Your fucking body stops functioning properly, emergency processes start going on and your body's going to switch into alert mode. You're probably going to get depressed and your energy is going to get lower and you won't be losing fat as efficiently because your body is fucking terrified of giving up the energy reserves because you're not capable of eating enough to sustain your whole body, so your body would rather lose its' muscles and extremities and save fat for the brain and the guts. tl;dr eating under your BMR fucks every single metabolic action in your body and compromises you.

>b-b-but anon, the fasts..
Overall acute stress is better than chronic stress. imho it's better to do a 2-3 day fast and then eat regularly since it puts your body in a state of stress acutely (don't do fasts like a stupid person, read up on it) than eating in a big deficit long term. The stupidest thing you can do is to eat under your BMR for a long time. You fuck your shit up. Just eat 300-500 kcal below not your BMR, but below your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure, how many kcals you burn during the day with all your activities counted in)

Just fucking google BMR calculator and NEVER eat below that number for a prolonged time period (7+ days)

I remember the time when I was cutting to 168lbs (at 6'3") in hope to see my abs for the first time only to find out I was still fat as fuck.

also I forgot to mention:

>BMR calculator
from what I heard from nutritionists, the BMR calculators are almost always retarded and they throw out a ridiculously low number, I was told to add at least 150-200kcals to the number I got to get something accurate.

>you talked about TDEE but didn't explain
Same way there are BMR calculators, there are TDEE calculators. If you use a calorie tracker, some of them have activities baked in as a logging option - you log 30 minutes of treadmill and it decreases the calories you ate according to the app. So you can try doing that, or you can just do what I do and try and average out how many kcals you burn in an activity. I might be wrong, but the number I always worked with was 350-450kcals per 1hr of working out at the gym. 300-400 kcals per any other sport session, for example bouldering or BJJ
