>be me 6 months ago
>doing PHUL
>end of program, hit 2pl8 bench, but just barely
>can't even do 2 full reps
>out of gym for like 3 months, maybe more, idk
>come back and do a 6 week meme hypertrophy program
>no regular barbell bench, just close grip bbb, and dumbbell bench
>12-14 rep ranges with pretty unimpressive weight
>after 6 weeks of that, come back to bench press
>Day 1
>warmup set @ 185 suspiciously EZ
>fuck it, we ball
>load up 2pl8, grab a spotter
>5 reps like it's child's play, with more in the tank
>spotter doesn't even touch the bar
>2nd set, knock out 8 with minor struggle
>3rd do the same
Bros... Could it really have been so easy this whole time?
>>76380628 (OP)Bigger muscle lifts more weight... Who would've thought that. Powerlifting is a meme.
>>76380645I fucking guess, man.
It's just messing with my head that it was so easy after not even doing the movement for months. Not that I'm complaining
>>76380628 (OP)never really understood PHUL, why the fuck would you spend half your effort and time on legs?
>>76380645>Bigger muscle lifts more weight... Who would've thought that. Powerlifting is a meme.Yes, but more weight makes bigger muscle. They go hand in hand. Peak your neurological strength then take that towards hypertrophy training. Then peak your neurological strength with your new big muscles and repeat.
>>76383141>>76382186Basedboys.
Legs are the most functional and largest muscles in the body. Why would you not dedicate just as much if not more into them than upper body?
>>76383369Who cares about functional strength? Nobody ever needs to lift more than furniture in real life.
>>76383383Leg strength goes a long way for everything you do in life especially into old age.
No one cares about functional strength until they realize they don't have it whenever that may be.
>>76383398>Leg strength goes a long way for everything you do in life especially into old ageYou're not going to carry a grand piano on your back when you're 80 anyway.
Doing more than the bare minimum on legs is a complete waste of time unless you're competing.
>>76383422No, but having muscle mass and leg strength will protect from falls and keep the bones strong at an age where one fall is usually lights out in terms of good health.
Post meme hypertrophy routine
>>76383369legs grow fast as fuck (except calves) and have fewer overall muscles than your upper body. the upper body requires more time simply because there are more muscles there, it's an unbalanced split
i currently dedicate 1/3 of my time and effort in the gym for legs and it's perfect

Pretty much this, but replace cable crossover with Pec fly, cable curl -> Bayesian curl, and hammer curl -> Close grip palm up pulldown (dunno if there's another name)
