I'm a bit of a hypochondriac and have tried most supplements by now, I have walls of them, and let me tell you this: they're almost all useless.
Bare minimum list:
- all in one multi vitamin (it will cover zinc, all b vitamins, some magnesium, some vit d, everything else usually except vit K2 and iron. Don't worry about k2.)
- omega 3 (get enteric coated for your stomach)
- creatine
optional:
- melatonin (3 ug timed release)
- potassium and/or iron depending on your diet -- neither are in multivitamins.
The idea with supplements is to make up for what you don't get in your diet. Most people eat random crap so they can't properly access whether they get enough nutrients. But if you lift you have a set diet, so you can measure what you get. Make sure you get enough potassium and magnesium. Western diets are very lacking in these nutrients.
Assess your own risk for vit d. There are "fortified" foods with some vit d in it but generally unless you get 30 mins sun light each day, you might not get enough. Seriously though. Don't overdo the supplements.
