don't waste your time and money on anything except for powerblocks. all other dumbbells are inferior and likely to fall and break your teeth mid rep.

I wouldn't call it a meme, but you can get a better bang for your buck by opting for a set of resistance bands and some calisthenics equipment.
Dumbbells will require you to have a bench for many of the exercises they're good at.

Meme, trim/fractional plates on loaded dumbbells let you more finely adjust weight to consistently keep advancing, especially for things like lateral raises.
Loaded dumbbells are also a meme, but really are more flexible than adjustable.

Other brands are decent now. I have a pair of the 70lb Powerblock Pro EXPs, and those things seem pretty indestructible. But I've been considering either selling them, or simply supplementing them with Nuobells or Snodes because I rarely use dumbbells for heavy weight. I'm usually doing superset style stuff with them at 50lb and below. The cages around the hands are annoying, changing the weights is more finicky, and anything between 10x weight is a fucking nightmare with them. The 2.5lb inserts are a pain in the ass to deal with, and mine aren't magnetic enough to get a secure attachment with magnetic change weights.

I have powerblocks, they’re great but this statement hasn’t been true for good while.

If I had the money and didn’t already have powerblocks, I’d go with the Rep x Pepin adjustable dumbbells, the Rep QuickDraw or whatever are good too if you don’t need to lift heavy. Iron Master adjustables are still the most durable, but a little slow to change weights.

I’ll probably stick to my powerblocks for another few years cause they are good, but the unbalanced weight will always feel weird.

I wouldn't trust the fancy clicky ones, there was already a big stink and a mass recall from the company that I think invented them (Bowflex) because people would keep breaking their face with them.

I've never seen fancy adjustable dumbbells go beyond like 70ish lbs which is lmao dyel tier. Like >>76382503 said loadable dumbbells are better, some are long enough that you can easily load them above 100, they are overall cheaper, you have more control over the weight, etc.

It's a stupid gimmick for impressionable retards with too much disposable income.

Worth is relative. Some of it is you need to spend enough so that can motivate you to get your money's worth.
Liking my powerblocks though. Would upgrade to 60-70 in the future if it becomes useful but I'm actually a dyel who just does a few sets throughout the day while working from home.

Ask yourself if you -really- need the quickchange feature. Because handles that load with plates means cheaper weights and (typically) a lot more weight per dumbell.

Anon two 70 lbs dumbbells add up to 140. Dumbbell bench press is considered to an equivalent of barbell bench press plus 20%. That means 70 lbs dumbbells will never allow you to progress past 168 bench, which isn't even lmao1.5plate. Meanwhile i can load my basic bitch loadable dumbbells to 137 EACH, 6 11s on each side plus 5 from the dumbbell itself. Get real.
>but arnold did an incline (which is harder than flat bench) with 70s once therefore he has NEVER lifted heavier on ANY lift and i will NEVER need more

I have the reppins and they’re pretty nice except for the 5lb adjustment which I wish they found a way to integrate better. but I also think they’ve hiked the price like $150 since I got mine and they were already priced pretty premium.
either way they’re a tiny fraction of the price a set of fixed dumbbells that go from 10 to 105 would have cost and they take up much less space in my garage.

I really dont get the obsession of americans with getting a new dumbell every time they increase the load. The only explanation i find is switching weights between sets easily, because changing the plates on an adjustable one is a pain in the ass, but imo its not worth the shitload of money it costs plus all the abandoned equipment you accumulate. I already have a shit ton of small plates i dont and cant use and they just lie there and overcomplicate moving homes. I might give them away or sell them for dirt cheap, i just wanna get rid of them

It makes sense in the context of equipping a gym, buying a bunch of dumbbells is gonna be a minor cost compared to all the other equipment, you have plenty of space and it allows people to pick and choose very smoothly. For personal use though it's just retarded.

in the long term adjustables are less expensive, though if you're pushing over 100lbs you may have to buy more dumbbells for that
