Does anyone else feel torn between 'I need to stick to a routine' and 'I need to listen to my body'

How are you supposed to know what to pick? If you ignore your body screaming for a break you get sick/injured but if you constantly give in to weakness you make no progress

Moderation.
If I just feel like "waaa I'm tired I'm sleepy I don't wanna" I tell myself to shut the fuck up and stick to previously established routine
If I feel actual pain, like pulled muscle or tendonitis I tell myself not to be a retard and take a week off because pushing through pain can get your ass permanently damaged
Listen to your body, but listen carefuly

Bud you're supposed to pick both.
Tweak you're routine until it's balanced with your recovery. It's very easy if you're not disabled or have a huge ego.

I've never bothered with a routine, and it works out fine.

Just do both. In regards to habit formation it’s acceptable to just go through the motions.

So for example I work out every single day, 365 days a year unless I’m sick and that hasn’t happened in 3 years. Some days I do the most low intensity shit ever. 3x10 sit-ups. Or a 10 minute qui-gong routine that doesn’t even make me sweat. Habit forming is about responding to a que with a behavior and the brain can make the connection like “after I brush my teeth I go work out” and the intensity of the workout is not necessarily a factor in your habit if that makes sense.
