No study has ever studied the consumption of raw meat. It seems incredible to me that in all this time nobody has bothered. All the studies that have concluded that cooked meat gives more nutrients have been based on blood tests, but they're obviously not weak. You can eat 2 liters of juice a day for 6 months and the blood tests will still tell you that you're in very good health.

There's no need to tell me that there are bacteria and parasites in raw meat - they're only bad for animals in poor health, no wild animal suffers from the presence of parasites - they're symbionts. According to Aajonus vonderplanitz, as long as you provide enough raw animal fat and raw protein, you can regenerate what the parasite eats.

Here are reputable scientific and medical sources showing that raw meat is generally less healthy (and more hazardous) than cooked meat, both in terms of nutritional bioavailability and pathogen risk:

---

1. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

> “Eating raw or undercooked meat increases the risk of foodborne illnesses caused by E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, and Toxoplasma gondii.”
Source: CDC – Food Safety and Raw Meat

Summary: Raw meat significantly increases the risk of infection, which can lead to severe illness or death, especially in vulnerable populations.

---

2. World Health Organization (WHO)

> “Raw or undercooked meat can harbor harmful bacteria and parasites. Cooking meat thoroughly kills pathogens and makes it safer for consumption.”
Source: WHO – Five Keys to Safer Food Manual

Summary: The WHO officially recommends thorough cooking of meat to avoid contamination from dangerous microorganisms.

---

3. National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Study: Thermal processing enhances meat digestibility by denaturing proteins and softening connective tissue.

> “Cooking increases the digestibility and bioavailability of meat proteins, lysine, and other amino acids. Raw meat may not be fully digestible.”
Source: Zhang, L., et al. (2021). Thermal Processing Enhances Meat Protein Digestibility. NIH/NLM PubMed.

Summary: Cooked meat is not just safer—it’s often more nutritionally accessible to the human digestive system.

4. Harvard University – Evolutionary Biology

> “Cooking meat made it easier to chew and digest, allowing our ancestors to get more energy from it. This may have supported brain expansion in human evolution.”
Source: Wrangham, R. (2009). Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human. (Also see Harvard Magazine summary).

Summary: Cooking meat is not only safer—it has been central to human development, improving caloric yield and nutrient absorption.

---

5. FDA Food Code and USDA

> “Meat must reach internal temperatures of 145–165°F (63–74°C) to destroy pathogens. Raw meat fails this standard and should not be consumed.”
Source: USDA – Safe Minimum Internal Temperatures
Source: FDA Food Code

Summary: U.S. federal guidelines define raw meat as unsafe unless properly cooked.

---

Summary:

Issue Raw Meat Cooked Meat

Pathogen Risk Very High Low (when done properly)
Digestibility Lower Higher
Nutrient Absorption Less bioavailable More bioavailable
Public Health Recommendation Discouraged Encouraged

50-80% of my diet is raw beef. Has been since 2018. I'm 33. Everyone around me has been getting arthritis or other similar autoimmune disorders. Me? Healthy as a fiddle.

>no wild animal suffers from the presence of parasites - they're symbionts
Not true. Many parasites are mostly symbiotic, but some will outright kill the host. Some on purpose (mostly ones that spread to the next host by ways of carrion consumption), others because they're adjusted to a different host (for example, there's a species of worms that's specialized for foxes, but will kill human hosts). And then there's some insects that'll lay eggs in or on the hosts (mostly insects, but also deer, cows and other cloven-hooved animals with some parasites) and have their offspring eat the host during development.

However, it's fairly easy to tell whether meat contains parasites. Most leave easily visible holes (such as worms living in the liver, or fly maggots in the muscle) or massive blisters (some worms), and the one parasite that isn't plainly visible, trichines, is checked for in all developed countries.

However, viruses and bacteria can be spread through raw meat. I wouldn't eat raw meat unless I trust the source, or killed the animal myself.

Unfortunately, you're not going to reason with the people on /fit/. 90% of the people on this board haven't been lifting consistently for two years and most of them are DYEL or obese. The remaining 5% are mostly roided TF out and try to give natties advice.

It's dumb. If we're really at the point where we're debating whether or not you should eat raw meat, we're arguing basic food safety facts.

Wild animals don't cook their meat and have less food poisoning. I really think that raw meat is less dangerous than cooked meat if it's good quality and you're used to it.

you literally just believe things that someone says without it being true
raw meat is tender, that's why medium rare or rare is easier to eat
if you cook it, it becomes like rubber
also it's way easier to digest if it's raw
when you eat raw you don't feel it in your stomach and intestines, but when you cook meat it feels so heavy and makes you lethargic
