It's shit, there's a reason Wendler had to make every stupidly named add-on to 531 with the later additions, because the base program is extremely low volume AND low intensity.

BBB as written: 5x10 with 50% of 90% of your 1rm
this is just fucking retarded, the only thing it's difficult for is squats and even then it's still too light to produce any significant strength or size gains over time. The first few sessions are hard, since you've probably not done 50+ squats in a while, and then it just becomes a total waste of time.

I've never met someone who did 531 and had truly impressive lifts, AT MOST it was 300ish benches and 500ish deadlifts.
Plenty of guys get to that without following a program at all and just training hard.

Only thing that seems to be a bigger beginner trap is kettlebells

had to wait 2 minutes to post this shitpost btw

I ran 5/3/1 for the first time this winter. I'm an intermediate. I did a very barebones template and the accessories I chose weren't the best.
I tried BBB for bench and OHP but desu, that didn't do much. Yeah sure, ur getting volume in but the intensity isn't sufficient.
For squats and deads however. I did two back off sets, respectively 90% and 80% based off of my top set for the day. My squats and deads made much more progress than upper lifts.
I will use these back off sets all 4 lifts next time I run 5//3/1. My accessories are better now too. I like the back off sets because you can get in enough volume, but the load is still enough where you can grind that shit out towards the end. I won't be on this program forever, but I intended to run it again when I start bulking this winter.

TLDR: BBB seemed like waste of time. I liked 5/3/1 but I'm doing it differently next time. Replacing BBB with 2 back off sets

Back Off sets are how to add weight to any main lift. The answer to adding weight is:
1. Heavy top set, back off sets 1 day a week.
2. Other days less intense, going for volume but do variations of the lift, address weakpoints.
2. Do the lift 3x per week.

idk i use chatgpt now, i want an aesthetic build, i did use blackironbeast though cause it was easy and it told me what weights to put on the bar. But as for bbb it is a lot of junk volume when you could be doing arms or other iso movements, also people don't do it and run the 5x a week he says. so they just end up getting bloated i see how it is useful, but i want a more aesthetic build is all. If you want a very focused power centric build its very good if you do your hill sprints as well

>50% of 90%
so 45% (of 100%)? Why is it written that way?

5/3/1 got me to a 320 bench and 505 DL while running a pretty minimal program. I like it for its ability to make gains with not a ton of gym time, I used to travel for a work a lot and it was a great program for that.
