No they can't. I own a gym and first timers struggle with the bar most of the time. Occasionally you get a promising beginner who can do 60kg but it's not common.

Every topical forum is full of people who have only ever been good at that thing. Where else would they be.

I've done like 400 sets of bench and still fail 2pl8 half the time I try it.

Is two plate actually impressive? I do 105kg for my warmup (a bit higher than my first working set) and I reckon if I focus purely on a 1RM and killed myself to do it I could so 107kg but I'm sitting here beating myself up over not doing 2.5pl8 for my first working set, no 3pl8 etc

120-140kg if he has good benching technique.

otherwise 100-120kg

Fuck no, I bench 100kg for 5 and I'm a lot skinnier than him

>>76413461 (OP)
I think he's at 2.5pl8 probably. he's lean here but not that big (not 3pl8 big for his bodyfat), and strength wasn't what he was going for anyway. In more recent years I bet he's a lot stronger than in that pic

This

I worked at a gym for like 5 years, everyone on the internet who says beginners are hitting 225lbs bench within their first 3 months are full of shit and don't even lift. Most actual beginners, as in people who never lifted before (different story for people who lifted for years but then stopped, and are beginning again) are benching less than 100lbs at the start lol

oh and it's also common for people who have been showing up for over 3 years to say they've only lifted for a year too

Something like 99.9% of people can't do it, so yes. I did it like 11 months ago for the first time and it was almost as hard today. Other lifts have gone up. (I did cut for a few months.) I've certainly never seen someone load 3 at a normie gym.

Interesting. I did 97kg for 7 today with good control, probably 1 RIR so next session on Sunday I'm going to go for 100kg to 6. I still feel small though lol maybe cause I also need to cut for like 8 weeks to get definition back
