I've been lifting for 6 months and am eating at a caloric deficit while attempting a body recomp.

My gains have been modest so far and I've lost some weight and gained some muscle mass.

I was wondering if I started to eat at maintenance or a slight surplus, will my noob gains continue or accelerate?

Eat at maintenance or a slight deficit to practice diet discipline, then just train harder.

Train to failure on isolation movements only and keep practicing your compound movements.

recomp isn't real if you aren't a fatty.
If you are a fatty (18% bf or higher), keep on deficit
If you aren't a fatty, choose bulk or cut.

When you're a beginner, what matters most is protein. Someone eating 1000kcal but 200g of protein will gain more muscle than someone eating 2000kcal, but only eats 80-100g protein.

This. I wasted fucking years "just eating more rounded meals", gained more in 3 months of just eating a shitload of protein shakes and less carbs.
