Had a coworker tell me that collagen protein is a great way to boost your protein intake, just adding it to your coffee in the morning. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? Online sources say that it only effects tendon recovery and doesn't do anything for muscle growth, but that hardly makes sense, protein is protein when you get down to it. Have I been retarded this whole time by not using collagen protein?

collagen lacks the amino acids that are needed for muscle protein synthesis

At that point bro, just buy regular whey protein. Collagen is good for connective tissue/skin but has a different function than muscular protein. Collagen is meant to act as a brace, it is resistant to wear and tear. That's why you find it around joints and such. Muscular proteins, such as myosin or actin, are made to contract. They will have different amino acid compositions. It's about choosing the right tool for the job.

Sure, just don't get it confused with high quality protein that counts towards building muscles.

Yes, be aware of the distinction between the two. Also do your research on what brand of collagen you buy, make sure you get what you pay for.

No it hasn't, there's more evidence than ever.
Depending on what it's bound up in (like plant matter) effects overall extrction, then exact protein makeup effects how well/much tour body can break it down into aminos, and then it's amino makeup determines how usefull it is.
Collegen is shit

I mix collagen in my morning coffee every day. Started because of lose skin issues after losing weight, that solved itself by exercising a lot and bulking a little, i put on a lot of muscle and some fat and my skin isn't that lose anymore. But it also unexpectedly helped with joint pains.

I would recommend it if you know what i'm talking about

How much are you consuming? Also why would you not just mix it into a protein shake? That's what I do. ~5g per day.
