Is there an effective, minimalist exercise for your lower body you can do at home?

What's the pushups + pull ups of your quads and posterior chain?

The Bulgarian split squat is pretty much the best bodyweight leg exercise. Hits all the muscle groups on the leg and it's enough resistance to build a fair amount of muscle, especially if you do higher reps.

Pistol squats, nordic curls, reverse nordic curls, lunges, split squats
Superset them if they're too easy. If you can do that then you already have strong legs that you can just work out once a week to keep in good shape and not interfere with calisthenic skills of your upper body. Or if you want to focus on both upper and lower then you have to use some weights or resistance for lower body, no other way

You just get used to balancing pretty quickly but you can use a stool or something to help at first if you like.

The wider your stance the more hamstrings and glutes are involved. Definitely quad dominant but for an all in one movement it does a good job of hitting all 4 major parts of the leg. It also stretches your leg out nicely
