I couldn't be happier. When I was a wee lad, the presidential fitness test rolling around was something my school took pretty seriously. I put in the time to make sure my score was good. It was a source of pride. I even got a little certificate with Bush's signature on it.

I only view this as a good thing. Let our children feel the fire in their hearts for physical competition. Give them brief respite from the long, slow march through the institutions.

I did a bit of research on this and the test wasn't really killed, it was replaced by a different program that put more emphasis on living an healthy lifestyle and personal growth. The old test was more traditional where it was purely performance oriented.

I'm not sure if this means the old program is getting axed. But I think its a good thing if they get to live side by side. I can understand that if there's only one test where the only way to score high is to be /fit/. It might signal to kids in poor shape that there's no point in improving.
