>old test caused the services to view skinnyfat twigs as the paragon of fitness

Nope. It placed an emphasis on cardio, because the people that actually fight rely on cardio to hump a ruck over long distances, run across a drop zone to assemble, and bound from cover to cover in assault kit. Meanwhile all the pathetic non-combat pieces of shit sit on their asses, get fat, and can't run like the combat men.

Regardless, the new standards are a fucking joke, and are 100% designed by D.E.I. policy to allow females into combat units where they'll continue to slow down the men and make our military worse as a result.

Yeah, no. I don't care what you think about the new test. It objectively does a better job of measuring shit that's relevant to combat operations, like lifting heavy shit or moving quickly with heavy shit or having the endurance to do a long movement after moving heavy shit. You're looking at pictures of dudes in BDUs and jerking off over the SOVL they had but not seeing the effects the culture of physical training at the time had on the average soldier's fitness, even in combat arms. In the days of the APFT, you could score 300 all day long but not be physically capable of basic shit like pulling a wounded comrade out of a vehicle or moving a heavy machine gun, which is totally fucking backwards.
You'll also notice in the scoring tables that the male standards are also the standards for combat arms, meaning a female has to pass at a higher standard to be in any combat MOS.

This new test they came up with is a D.E.I. clusterfuck, a logistical nightmare for unit's, and created by some fat faggot or some gym puke that doesn't have to hump a ruck on the reg.

>Deadlift
Good concept. Evaluate the ability to hump a litter, right? WRONG! With a 150 lb minimum standard, they may as well not even have a standard. No man worth a fuck can't deadlift over 200 lbs, and the only reason the standard is so low is to accommodate females.
>Hand release pushup
Really? What's wrong with the regular pushup? Why is the minimum standard 15? FIFTEEN? That's an insult, and yet more female accommodation.
>sprint, drag, carry
Great concept, but leave it to the army to fuck it all up. Dragging 90 lbs? Carrying only 80 pounds? Should be a 200 lb carry, and a 200 lb buddy carry and be done with it. More D.E.I. slop.
>plank
Yea, fuck off.
>2 mile run
A 13:22 is the fastest ANYBODY in the army has to run 2 miles to max it, which is ALMOST as pathetic as the min run time of 19:57. That's pathetic, and yet more female pandering because they're so fucking slow.

They should have kept the old test, raised the standard across the board by 10%, added a 200 lb buddy carry, a 200 lb casualty drag, and a 12 mile road march with a 50 lb ruck in under 3 hours.

But the army is ran by faggots and idiots, so of course they came up with that trash.

Nah, the old test was fine. Dudes that ran 13's and under you knew had a good cardio base to build on, and if they could knock out at least 60 push ups, you knew they had decent upper body strength. This new test is great if you're working as a mechanic in a motor pool, but it sucks if you need guys to carry 80 lbs of shit all day while searching for Kaiser Soze in some unknown valley, or be able to keep up while clearing an 8000 ft runway and taxiways, or running off the birds and doing the 600 meter dash to the assault position. Cardio was always the biggest weakness of the guys, not strength.

The point of any fitness test is to assess soldiers' fitness across a range of domains so you can plan physical training accordingly and get them fit enough to perform tasks in the unit's METL. The test doesn't need to have super high standards to do that.
Most commanders and PT program designers suck at programming PT, but if done properly, the fitness test is used to gauge initial performance levels, while a more specific evaluation event is designed and performed during or after a training cycle. This can be much more intense and tied to specific performance demands, such as being able to displace a heavy machine gun position under a certain time limit. Having a standardized test across the Army that tests a variety of fitness domains makes it easy for commanders to get a snapshot of their soldiers' fitness before making more specific programs tied to the actual duties and tasks of the unit... or at least, it should, except that 90% of units just train for the test and call that good enough.
Anonymous No.76613846 [Report]
>>76613802
I partially agree. My biggest problem with the ACFT/AFT is the vastly lower standards for the 2-mile and the corresponding lower overall cardio fitness standards it encourages. The minimum passing time (~16:30 iirc) for the youngest age bracket on the APFT now gets you 84 points on the AFT, for example. As a result some of the chonkier dudes have found ways to minmax their tests to where they can destroy the deadlift/SDC/pushups and suffer through the plank and 2-mile with passing scores while remaining fat as fuck.
That said, the opposite end of the spectrum was what we had before, where dudes might be excellent at cardio but not have the power to do shit like bring mortar rounds to a gunline quickly during a battle or pull someone who gets wounded while wearing full gear out of a fighting position. I was one of those people myself back in the day.

The training is hard because they deprive you of sleep.
But the fitness is easy.

I was in, in the old days, and the old APFT mostly resulted in a shitload of VA claims later in life. It was really hard on the body.
Arguably, the new test won't result in as much VA claims thus save a shitload of money and human pain in the long run.
The odds of getting hurt doing something drop as you train to do it. So making everyone do at least a little of every kind of training, should result in a hell of a lot less injuries.
This is somewhat orthogonal to the problem of PT where the army found an official way to make soldiers sweat without making any athletic performance gains, which is impressive in a certain negative way. Like our countries greatest enemies couldn't make an athletic program worse for us than official army PT. If you want to get athletic in the Army you have to / had to cheese at official PT to save your energy to work out on your own time to make actual gains.
