bread is the best carb source and it's not even close
>can eat anywhere and doesn't leave a mess
>it's already baked and can be bought anywhere
>cheap
>tasty
>highest protein, mineral and vitamin content of any carb source
>many bakeries use vitamin/mineral fortified flour too
>can be eaten alongside just about anything
>can be eaten in big quantities without getting digestive issues, the ultimate staple food
>the food of the akkadias, assyrians, egyptians, greeks, romans, celts, germans, spaniards, the best of the best warrior-like civilizations

I once baked a load of bread without salt and it was the most repulsive thing I've ever eaten.

Without crushed up rocks that act essentially as a taste-enhancing drug, bread is completely inedible.

real talk how the fuck did people of the past survive on this stuff
did their wine have some paranormal regenerative properties or what, I can drink once even slightly and it fucks my sleep up, these people drank wine or light beer for hydration apparently and yet were somehow still doing just fine? what the fuck am I doing wrong?
not that I want to be drinking alcohol but it sounds to me like they were on a completely different level of super chilling

I bake a ton of my own bread. Once I figured out how to do it. I never stopped. I love baking a Rustic Potato bread. If anyone is interested I will gladly post my recipe

Please do anon. Better yet, if you also had some pointers/resources on how to start with baking (bread or in general) and were willing to share, that would be great. Or maybe I should just pick up a recipe and try at it till I succeed lol

Before my Mom died, she gifted me this book called The Bread Bible.
I was terrified to cook from it because it looked so complicated. But after a year of her death, I took that book out. And just went with something.

I've learned so much from that book. I highly recommend it.

The brand of flour you use does indeed make a difference. I've used countless. And King Arthur has been the best. Also types. Bread, All Purpose and Cake Flour will all wield different results. Let me write down my potato bread and post it here.

Thank you for the answer so far, and my condolences. I won't be able to bake the bread right now to report my results, but do know that I will be baking bread in some form based on the information you have given me here, so you will be receiving my communications via the global telepathic DMT network.
The book looks great, and just 27 moneys for a hardcover, I'll definitely get it too.

The best 2 breads I have ever eaten so fare were 1) some sort of extremely seed-heavy probably sourdough I have no clue what it was bread baked by my mother and 2) some kind of exotic-name-sounding (Japanese?) pumpkin bread from a local organic foods store
holy shit I have not had good bread in ages...

Imo the best bread is plain old sourdough in Germany, Poland, Austria, Czechia etc.

>weak beer and/or mixed their wine with water
I've heard that but still they drank it in quite large quantities no? But maybe the dilution does do so much. I wonder how socialization would go nowadays if it were common to drink lower alcohol content beverages while out in the cities at night. Like if 2 % beer were common? Would we be getting all the benefits without the downsides?
From what I've found online, Roman wine seems to place at somewhere in the 2 - 6 % alcohol (depending on dilution), the upper end still seems a bit too much for a daily drink to me but maybe they were just built different lol.

>Imo the best bread
I'm Czech so I guess it might have been of the type you mention but I'm really not sure.
Sadly I've not encountered first hand any kind of bread-baking tradition where I live, even my grandma used to buy bread from the store I think? She made amazing brownies though.

you can literally eat vegetables raw and they taste good
meat I have cooked without seasoning but with some butter on the pan, so I can't say for sure if it'd be good absolutely without anything, but I have noticed that it has a very strong taste of its own that I don't think is coming from the surface butter
also egg yolks are tasty as fuck even without any seasoning (whites not so much lol)

this, I don't know if it was roman or greek or whatever but they saw not mixing your wine with water as degenerate and barbaric
