Are boomers just built different?
My dad is 55, has been a severe alcoholic since he was 15, so 40 years of daily drinking, yet he has zero health issues. Okay, he has a big gutt but he has zero issues with his liver or any other organ.
How?

For every boomer like your dad (and mine) there are thousands that died early from cirrhosis. My dads the same as yours, played lots of sports all up to his 40's and and has always done his lil boomer cardio routine and also drinks beers as soon as it hits 12 and goes to bed annoyingly drunk every night. Just genetics I guess

40 is still pretty young. Cardiovascular risks for men really take off around 50

He has been doing zero exercise since 25 years. I don't know. I feel like within the next few years there has to be a sudden turning point. His lifestyle is horrible, I can't believe how he isn't dead yet.

He is out of shape but has no cardiovascular diseases.

>he has zero issues
I can guarantee you that's fucking wrong. Having a huge gutt already comes with a large number of health issues. And I would bet you that he also has all the usual stuff, high blood pressure, atherosclerotic plaque buildup, erectile problems. He is probably on some meds already, if not, he'll be there soon (unless he refuses to see a doctor/take his meds like many old men).

he does have health issues, he just hides them from you
ah to be young and completely clueless again

Maybe but he experiences nothing negative. I think he might even have diabetes type 2 but he continues to consume a bad diet with no issues.

Come back in ten years. At his age his body is rapidly declining without a regular training regime and if he lived hard the damage will start to cause chronic issues in the coming years, especially if he still regularly indulges.

op is probably like 17, he'll figure out one day that he was missing all the signs

That's probably closer to the truth. A lot of health issues don't actually hurt until they've become very serious. For many people the first symptom of heart disease is actually sudden death.

it's a decline in capacity not like one day you feel 100% and another you're at 0 and super sick. i bet your dad could feel better if he cut back or stopped drinking and did a half hour workout each day. honestly former drunks are some of my favourite running chums bc they can't stop chatting while jogging

there's something wrong with him that he is hiding from you. and it's likely incredibly gross and your mom knows about it

It's like that car of a friend who does nothing for it. No oil changes no services no nothing. It's seems to run fine and not haven any problems till one day it just stops everything.

With alcohol your heart fails before your liver. Livers are fried by people taking tylenol for hangovers everyday not from alcohol itself.

My dad's the same as your dad, he THOUGHT he was healthy even though he didn't go to the doctor for 8+ years. Finally went and his cholesterol was literally off the charts, it only went to 999 on the test but his was for higher. Turns out only eating meat is fucking horrible for you. Not only that but his internal fat was crushing his organs.

Something others haven't mentioned, what he's drinking factors into it. If he's a Coors-Light guy, he could forever. If he's a whiskey guy, take every opportunity to tell him you love him now.

55 is about the time life choices and genetic dice rolls start catching up to everyone.
