Note that apparently (according to my dr) the smaller the dose you take the larger the sedative effect. I don’t how that works but that’s how it is so just take the normal dose prescribed to you. The increased appetite side effect for me was not really the issue, but the constant grogginess.
I took this medication for a while for insomnia and while it does help you sleep I always felt groggy as hell the next day. 8 hours never felt like enough and getting up out of bed in the morning was always so difficult. Even on days where I got 10+ hours of sleep I never really felt rested. I’d say the positive of this drug is that it knocks you out which removes the anxiety and frustration of lying awake at night unable to sleep. But the negative is that even though I was getting so much more sleep I did not really feel any more rested that if I had barely slept.
For me personally the method that cured my insomnia was reading into acceptance and commitment therapy. Specifically in The Sleep Book by Guy Meadows.
Insomnia sucks but you can get rid of it without drugs. In fact I’d say that the only way to truly and permanently get rid of it is to do it without drugs. It’s all about removing the fear and the negative reaction inside your mind to wakefulness at night time. It sounds dubious but it really is all in your mind and related to your thoughts, so that’s where change needs to happen. Anyway I won’t go too deep into it, it’s all in the book I mentioned. Best of luck to you friend
