Are bodyweight exercises a meme? or can I actually put some size on if I haven't ever lifted before and I'm a fatass

If you are a fatass you will be moving a lot of weight with body weight exercises because your body weight is so much it’s like deadlifting and benching 400kg so you’ll actually need to decrease the weight over time instead of increasing it

Yeah they can work for fat people but a gym is probably going to go a lot further and faster.

Harder to monitor and make solid progress on. Imagine adding a quarter of the weight to your bench suddenly or having to do like twenty more reps to do the same thing as you would if you just used weights. You could wear weights I guess but it is inconvenient and less linear than weightlifting.

Absolutely not a meme and a good, cheap and alot of the time, more fun and creative way to train.

Bulding strength, endurance, coordination and good habits? Yes bodyweight is very good then
Building beeg ol muscles? You will hit a ceiling quickly and need weights for progressive overload.
There is absolutely no downside in doing some bodyweight exercises complementary to whatever you want to achieve. Especially as a fatass imo.
