The 1st and second kiclstarters of these ended up being very expensive on resale so if you wnat one this may be your only chance for years.

Probably the most hard core tech platform you can buy this year
got funded in under 7 minutes
You have a couple of days left if you want one.

There is more to life than linux and microsoft. Some of us are going back to our roots.

The main reason I want one is the C compiler on it and the spectrum peripheral interface so I can get the fuck of microsoft and linux and have a full IDE to work with 12 volt DC relays and switch registers on the peripheral bus. I also want to write a game for it. Will I play with teh cores for teh spectrum and commodore? Absolutely but if you want to write assembler for the supported cores it has the IDE and toolkid as well as a c compiler.

I also want to play the spectrum next verion of lords of midnight and head over heels (they port games to it)

I've wanted ine ever since I mssed the second kickstarter years ago. Pic related relay controler.

They started with the Spectrum but with this 3rd model they plan to add systems like Amiga and Atari ST and beef them up too like they did with Spectrum and QL.
You'd probably need an external keyboard for those.

They expand the capabilities of the supported machines. It is for the retro enthusiasts, yes, but it can pull off a lot more than just 16 color 48k games.
If you wanted to dev retro games around 2000, you had mobiles. Around 2010 you had Steam. Now those markets are gone. On this you can make your Street Fighter or Outrun or Sonic and sell it to 10-20k people and make 100k.
>But you can do that on Genesis
Why not do it on both, plus this is more powerful than Genesis, so you don't have to tinker in assembly that much and it works as an electronic distribution platform.

You, guys, are missing the point. This is not mister.
Mister does not innovate, it just accumulates things.
Guys behind Next, on the other hand, expand the capabilities of those retro systems. The overhead you pay for years of development is really modest.
This youtuber showcases some games on Next, compare those to vanilla ZX
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGuCdSU_-FI
ZX was the first step. They already have somewhat working QL core with fully 32bit 68020 44MHz CPU, 65k colors and AY sound chip. That's something like PSX.
Dev talks about it in this presentation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cUSscLkBI0
Imagine them doing this stuff to C64. CPC, Amiga (Vampire 4 is 636 EUR btw), ST, etc
They are making a platform for retro game development that has a user base and is fun to develop on (unlike those hundreds of ARM handhelds), like back in the day, but you don't have to 100% asm every last byte.
