FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.
irm https://get.activated.win | iex
>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

>What version should I install?
>W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021
Binary identical to Enterprise except no MS Store or apps
Preinstalled with: Edge & Win32 system apps
10 years support on "IoT LTSC", 5 for "LTSC"
Manual version upgrades
IoT LTSC 2022: https://pastebin.com/rHcgvYS7

>W11 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2024
Same as W10 version except:
UI written in React Native aka JavaScript including: Start, Taskbar and Explorer that lags even on i9s
Use only if you fell for the 12th+ gen Intel meme and need the new CPU scheduler
Wait for IoT LTSC 2027 if you can

>Installing apps on LTSC
Use WinGet/Scoop or install MS Store in CMD with: wsreset -i

>W10/W11 Home/Pro/Education/Enterprise/Enterprise IoT

Alright guys I'm so done installing OS over and over again, just tell me what to use and I'll stick to it. Windows 10 ltsc or 11 ltsc?

I swear that games feel more smooth in windows 10 (could be placebo idk), but after spending so much time using windows 11 at home, work and in college, I actually got used to the UI and I can't help but feel that win10 looks ugly in comparison to 11.

I would like a free lightweight P2P offline LAN instant messenger client. Ideally, self-contained in one window.

I want to be able to send links to the person across the room without logging into some server.

I would like to be able to harass them in the rare event that the internet goes down

IPMSG is almost perfect, but everything comes through windows "notifications" and are invisible on the 2nd monitor when they're playing games.

I could probably force them onto Signal, Skype or Discord, but I'm convinced something like this exists

Why windows 10 iot ltsc is the greatest os and I will use it till the end of times instead of Linux:
1. Fractional scaling works excellent. (In Linux only X 200 scaling worked fine).
2. All software runs natively without needing any tinkering. (Easy installation too).
3. I can run all the Linux console programs-scripts I used with WSL. (I use wget often to download websites).
4. Shamba shares work flawlessly. (Couldn't make it work on Linux at all).
5. No memmory leaks. (apps would leak memmory on linux and had to be restarted after some time).
6. Never breaks
>*nerd talking* "but... but... anon you know that after 2032 you won't have any security updates and you would have to install windows 11 or linux again"
You are so wrong you stupid low testostero fe-male. After 2032 starts the real fun when I would finaly withdraw completely from any online activity and I would be offline consoooooming all the videos, books, pdfs, music and movies I would have downloaded all these years in my perfectly working windows 10 iot ltsc machine.

>Anyone know of a good way to log hardware events?
Hardware events are generally logged by Kernel-PnP and UserPnp logs/sources, so you might want to create a custom view. Not sure about USB-oriented logs/sources though, but with windows having gorillion event sources and logs of various types, feel free to take a gander at in spare time
Otherwise check the "Administrative Events" built-in custom view, plus the Summary section when you start Event Viewer
Additionally open up Device Manager, choose the "Devices by Connection" view and show hidden devices. Fully expand the USB nodes (controller/hub/device). If you're observant, you will notice that certain USB device constantly (dis)appearing

If I have to bet, it's probably some USB device's cable or transmitter malfunctioning, as it's constantly disconnecting rather than just showing "USB device connection failed". Hope the USB ports aren't faulty

It's an SSD-specific issue, so don't worry about the HDD. As long as your SSD doesn't have a cheap-ass Phison controller (or a rebrand thereof), especially DRAM-less, you should be fine

Crushing on a guy I've never met

He's a hockey player. And this other user posted about him, ever since then he's been on my mind. When I think about him, I smile. I spend some of my nights fantasizing about him and its weird because he's like 3 years younger than me. I never thought I'd ever find someone younger than me as appealing. Its not his looks, but his character (that is of course displayed on camera cause I've never met him before) and the way it just lights up. He has such a big smile and a funny personality but also can be very serious.

I keep trying to find ways to meet him, but every time I do, I get discouraged. I don't know this person, and they don't know me. I have not a slightest of clue on why I'm doing this to myself.

I've even went as far as to create collages and banners of him. On all of my devices, his photos are stocked in folders/files.

Im crazy

I used to see his name in the most oddest places and it shocked me because his name is very unusual.

When I close my eyes I think about a future that is very stretched out. From the day we meet, from the time he asks me out, the time leading up to our date, from the time we make it official. Then we date, get married, travel together. Then our kids, from toddlers to adults.

You mean make a Windows boot USB manually on Mac? You gotta make the USB FAT32 formatted firstly then mount the ISO and move all the files besides the sources folder into the USB. Then make a sources folder and move everything in there besides the install.wim file. Then install Homebrew if you haven't to install wimlib to your system then use that to split the install.wim into two files so it'll fit properly on the FAT32 filesystem. Then you can just unmount the USB and have a boot USB that'll work properly made in a Mac.

A shame, really. Their emulator was really good before the "BlueStacks X" bullshit happened (if you have to use it, you'll have to scout for the last version before the company rebranding and all these bloat being introduced)

At this point you might consider using an Android-x86-based distro and one of those ARM-to-x86 native bridges like libhoudini for non-x86 APKs

Microsoft Edge feels so much smoother to use and consumes less battery life than all other browsers on Windows. It's allegedly because of some low level optimizations that they're doing. Why are the other browsers not at least trying to implement similar things?

It's one of those chinese android "emulators" that you want to stay away from, if you're privacy-conscious
There are debloat guides for it (also for MEmu and LDPlayer), but one thing is debloating the android environment it virtualizes, and the other is not having the application datamine you and phone home to chinese servers on the windows side of things

You may want to give WSA a try, although MSFT-provided support has been discontinued since March this year: https://github.com/MustardChef/WSABuilds
Google also provides their own stuff with the Google Play Games beta release for PC - you'll be stuck with their games selection, however

That's why the guides say to replace its launcher with something like Lawnchair and use a root-accessible file manager like MaterialFiles to replace its own. Also needing to make the .exe read-only so it can't constantly disable the telemetry removal, so it's kind of a ballache to actually keep working correctly. But I hear it recommended because it's pretty performant for games and shit otherwise.

I try linux out once every quarter, and while a lot has improved, most of the distros are still pure dogshit. openSUSE Tumbleweed out of the box legit doesn't even have proper font support for asian languages, the Wikipedia page is just boxes. Ubuntu latest LTS release crashes during the installer if I have ethernet cable connected, or if I run it with GPU acceleration, so I have to run it in safe mode with no cable for it to even work. And once it's installed the software updater (which they have 3 different ones for some reason) tells me it's got issues and can't do a full upgrade. And these two and Fedora are pretty much the only ones that have a functioning basic security out of the box like SELinux/AppArmor, Secure Boot, and Full Disk Encryption. Fedora is by far the best one, but it's codec situation and documentation being so FUCKED it just makes me give up on doing anything beyond removing the LGBT flag wallpapers by dnf removing gnome-wallpapers and then simply installing everything in Flatpak. That's a pretty decent experience, until you realize Linux text rendering is dogshit and will never get better and every single site with small thin fonts will forever look blurry so you just give up on the deadshitos and move back to good ol windows. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 just werks, it should at least be fully supported until 2028 considering the ESU program and 2021/2022 builds of W10 practically being identical, and at least some browsers will 100% support it for a long ass time like Firefox ESR which is even supporting W7 still, and Edge that promises to support even ancient builds of W10 as long as LTSC is going on. I couldn't care less about steam working or not later on in 2028+ since I pirate all my vidya anywho.

Windows 11 can never be considered stable as long as the core system apps are completely broken. Weather widget doesn't update properly, the spotlight images often just stop working, the right click context menu on files which are recognized as defaults of Paint, Notepad, Copilot, Photos etc have a massive laggy delay loading in those plugins every time you click on the image. If you right click on a iso to rename it through the new context menu of file explorer it often times just launches it instead of renaming it, if you spam open the start menu it keeps increasing in CPU until 100%. Issa coal. Just let ts die and move from W10 -> W12 directly, not even IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 is safe as that shit's recieving feature updates that it shouldn't get lmao, even updating to a fucking 25H2 preview. I had some fun messing with Samba file sharing, but it is ultimately too slow and inconvenient for me versus using one of my flash drives to move files around. Win7 Homegroup makes this business easier, though.

Can't open stuff like gpedit unless I actually go into the admin account. Can't even run vcredist-aio via scoop because I need admin access, which won't run the installer script even in an elevated terminal.
Everything went smooth once I changed my daily account to admin again. Though unlike my previous install of 5 years, I set the UAC to max now (it was at 0 before).

Also if MS were really spying on people, you'd hear about cases of people getting arrested for crimes using windows and being exposed through microsoft's spyware, in reality that has never happened and that's why EU and UK are massively trying to add credit card and selfies to social media because realistically the only spyware is just that, you yourself assigning your personal identification to your posts and searches online. Windows is as private as mainstream Linux, there's objectively no way of disproving this, especially since Linux kernel itself has proprietary blobs and most people are running non-fsf approved distros and proprietary BIOS

LTSC builds remove all codecs and UWP apps, it's practically unusable considering how much shit relies on WebView, UWP apps, and proprietary codecs nowadays to have proper experience. And if you reinstall all that shit then you are back at step 0 and could just use base W11. LTSC also isn't a popular channel, it's used by like 0.1% of windows users, so practically no app developer care to accomodate LTSC users except for business specific apps that you don't need at home. I just looked up a random modding guide for FNV and they explicitly say they don't support anything deviating from GAC windows like meme LTSC builds because it often causes issues with outdated libraries, it's like using Debian LTS for gaming, there's a reason why valve moved to Arch

I'm doing a bunch of maintenance, installing, and re-installing etc. of several Win10 machines. I need a free & reliable utility to clone drives. Used to use Partition Wizard 9.something back in the WinXP & Win7 days, but it's not reliable to create bootable Win10 images anymore. Was great to automatically & custom resize partitions so I could use a 128 GB SSD as the source drive and clone it to a 64 GB drive, so long as the total data footprint would fit. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't now, probably due to GPT ... dunno.

Anyway. What suggestions to look into, please? Would Partition Wizard still be fairly solid, or is there better?

I don't really want to use an imaging software since I don't want to be dependent on a specific software being installed on a system that can only unpack and write a proprietary image format. Want to be able to connect any two drives to a system and clone directly.

Bonus features:
* be able to clone over a USB port, not be constrained to only using a SATA connector

* clone an SSD or HDD to a USB stick or SD card; not to boot & run, but to clone it back to SSD, HDD, NVME and have the image work (I have a shit ton of SD cards that would be great to keep several back up images on)

* would be fantastic to run such a utility from a bootable USB drive

* bonus bonus, defragmenting software similar to the old JKDefrag where you had numerous useful options for sorting & moving data; it worked spectacularly on Win7 but breaks Win8 & Win10

you can delete them in 5 seconds, you can never get apps that require a specific 23H2 or 24H2 build on windows that's stuck on 21H2 or will be stuck on 24H2 when rest of people are on 25H2, 26H2 and 27H2. Your entire system stack will be permanently stuck on a build that will every 3 years be 3 years out of date and incompatible with anything inovative and new that released in that period. You can't even use Directx 12 Ultimate or Auto HDR on Windows 10 21H2 now, and it has no CPU optimizations for any new 13+ gen hardware that's years old at this point. You also miss out on security features, your defender gets security heuristic updates but the actual capabilities of it never evolve. There's literally no use case for LTSC, a GAC build with all bloatware removed in 5 seconds right clicking in the start menu or using winget is infinitely more useful, secure, optimized, and compatible with windows apps

Not an LTSCfag but Enterprise gets 3y of support on any given feature release which gives you more guarantee of support. This is also a big reason to just use a GAC edition but the whole appeal of LTSC IMO isn't the lifecycle but the OOTB minimal configuration that you know future updates will respect.

Is there a way to actually view all the differences between standard editions? It seems like the weakest and most limited to various degree are
>Home (N, China, Single Language)
then you have slightly better versions with access to group policy but still no way of fully blocking telemetry, based on Pro
>Pro (N, Education, Education N, for Workstations, for Workstations N)
and then you have the most powerful editions which allow fully disabling telemetry in group policy editor based on Enterprise
>Enterprise (N, Enterprise LTSC, Enterprise LTSC N, IoT Enterprise, IoT Enterprise N, IoT Enterprise LTSC, IoT Enterprise LTSC N, Education, Education N)
Where exactly do the meme editions fit like the S, S N, SE, SE N, and Team? Are they all some extra scuffed cloud variations of Home core? I feel like I'd probably be best served using Education or Enterprise on my new tower, Education in particular seems good because it's even available on the standard windows media creation tool, so obviously they expect the average normie to use it like students or professors. I know that Education has spotlight disabled permanently, and it has no ms store recommendations. You can use the comparison chart from the wikipedia page as a starter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_editions#Comparison_chart
>S
Sub-edition of Home/Pro with restricted "S" mode on by default: Store-only apps, Edge with Bing search engine being the permanent default; can be permanently disabled from within the Store app
>N
Sub-edition without Windows Media components - doesn't extend to just Windows Media Player but the whole technologies including Media Foundation (along with the transform codecs)
The Media Feature Pack to re-add the media components may not be enough to restore media capabilities, so if all you don't want is WMP - use the non-N edition, uninstall the UWP app plus disable the classic one from OptionalFeatures.exe
>Team
Tailor-made edition for the Surface Hub

you can stop samefagging and peddling the debunked fake news, retard

Why do you get a kick out of pointlessly trying to troll the world around you as it passes you by and leaves you behind?

There's no Game Bar in LTSC because it's an UWP application, and apart from the system-critical ones from Windows\SystemApps, the standard-issue apps from Program Files\WindowsApps are all gone
Apply these registry tweaks in cmd (might have to do it elevated if it won't apply the first time) to disable GameBar functionability, and you shouldn't have the prompt showing up anymore

I have done that as well, and it doesn't work. I also disabled the game recording policy in the windows gaming template of group policy as well. I'm at my wit's end, nothing I find online works.

I have an Xbox One Series controller (actual Microsoft controller) I use for gaming and not even that calls up the gamebar. What are you using?

You also need to run
>Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
in an admin powershell alongside
>reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR /f /t REG_DWORD /v "AppCaptureEnabled" /d 0
>reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore /f /t REG_DWORD /v "GameDVR_Enabled" /d 0
to completely remove all traces of that UWP dialog that pops up.

All that work just because some controller stubbornly calls up the gamebar? No way for the controller to not be configured to not call up the gamebar? That's doable with Microsoft controllers.

Yeah it still doesn't work for me. I tried all 3 commands, and before that went into the registry to do it manually.

Oh I got this working, based on a script on github (I didn't want to run the script so I did it manually with chatgpt).
Or, well, I hope it works. I just tested it by connecting my controller via bluetooth and nothing popped up. I'll probably hop into a game later and see how it goes.
