FUCK the 3-5 cycle detection problems and the other one I forgot that was an annoying repeat

I'm slowly getting my template for PS2 worked out. Reading controller input is a pain in my backside, though. Got it to work in PCSX2 but doesn't work on hardware.
It's hard to work out where I am going wrong.
