That limit doesn't even exist here, Comcast only implemented that in areas where they had a monopoly. In my area where they've been competing with Verizon for ~15-20 years they never introduced a data limit.

Yeah it was fairly obvious around me back when they implemented the data cap in some areas because for Virginia, they specifically made it so "southern Virginia" was data capped, but northern Virginia (where verizon had a large presence) didn't have any data caps.

So yeah, it was obvious they were only doing it for areas that had no other good options for internet.

I mean, if you only have a single client device a single 10Gb SFP+ is fine.

And a 10Gbps switch isn't TOO bad if you needed more ports.

>>106524448
Wouldn't shock me, either remove it or increase the limit to ~10TB or something.

They give a 10GB/s adaptor on demand that you plug in the SFP port to get 10GB/s ethernet. You could just plug a switch to it that can do 10GB/s on all its ethernet ports.

That's likely just the link rate negotiated between your ONT (modem) and the ISP OLT.

Has nothing to do with the speeds you pay for.

My ONT also does this even though I only pay for 2gbps.

That IS the link speed.

It's linked to the OLT at 10gbps, your service is only 1Gbps, which is why you see that.

If the ONT allows you to specifically set the WAN link speed to 1gbps you could probably do that, but it would be pointless.

Lol no

The OLT is likely authenticating through the ONT and your ONT is tied to your ISP's speed tier, and it's all handled on the ISPs side of things, so even if you told your ONT to somehow ask for 10gbps, the OLT still wouldn't give it to you.

Because they're running "low split" DOCSIS 3.1 which only gives 5-42MHz to the upload side, which equates to ~30-40mbps.

DOCSIS 3.1 also supports "mid split" deployments which use 5-85MHz for the upload offering around 100-200mbps (depends on the distance from the ISP equipment.)

And finally there is "high split" DOCSIS 3.1 which is 5-204MHz which can do 200-350mbps upload.

It's only relatively recently DOCSIS ISPs in the US are upgrading to mid and high split deployments on a wide scale.

Comcast in my area has upgraded to high split DOCSIS 3.1 and offer 2300mbps download with 330mbps upload.

I've had cable internet (in the 'burbs in Yorkshire) for a couple of decades, and it's pretty great, enough that I don't want to buy the highest speed, as I simply don't need the speed. I could get fibre, but the bottleneck's usually not my connection so why bother.

I've been paying $45/m for DSL hybrid, for the past 8 years now. You think you have it bad? I used to get between 15-20mbit/s down during the day and like 20-30+ during the night. This decreased every year. Now I am sitting between basically DSL speeds (3mbit/s) with *maybe* an extra 1-2mbit/s from the 4G during the day, and often I can't even exceed 8mbit/s during the night. I live in a rural area, I have direct line of sight to the tower, and despite better signal quality/power than back in the day, it's way worse now. I am suffering. 350-500KB/s download a lot of the time, while it's 2025 and games can be >100GB.

Xfinity Now Wifi, west coast. It's marketed towards anyone who needs a secondary internet connection away from home, hence the low price, but there's nothing stopping you using it as your primary connection at home.
The catch is it's wifi-based utilizing their open public wifi network, so you need to be close enough to one of their APs, and it's not a secure connection (at the wifi level). You're also limited to connecting just two devices at a time, although there's ways around that with a router and a litlte technical know-how. It also forces you to reconnect via a captive login page every month or so. If you're okay with the limitations, it's hard to beat the value.

when i left they tried to offer a sick deal for $50 or some shit when i was moving to fiber instead and dropping them for being a loyal customer for years
i laughed out loud

you mean those games that you only need a 500kbps connection for?
Nice self-report.

I've seriously considered switching to one of those because the speed is double for half of what I pay. I've seen one in action in my BFE town and it's pretty damn fast.

Only USA states prices for before taxes/fees, so you can always assume its after taxes/fees.

Hello Dikshit, I recommend you go back to Duolingo.
Yes, AI models, libraries and dependencies can be several hundred gigabytes. But keep projecting; I’m sure you’ll escape the slums someday.

AI models take forever to train and the vast majority of devs never self-host. The number of coders regularly moving data sets like that is too small to matter.

But you wouldn't know because you have no marketable skills and are literally too fat to leave the house.

do you have 10gbe set up? current trend is 2.5gbe on motherboards so you may need a 10gbe ethernet card, cat 6q cabling in your house and if you use a router that needs 10gbe too. seems your bottlenecked somewhere

If you’re not bridging your modem, it’s probably doing all the routing itself anyway. Are you saying you have your own router and the modem’s DHCP is leasing it different addresses? If you just want to do intervlan with your router or something, you may have an option to reserve a specific IP thru the DHCP interface of the modem (probably a web interface). Or you could just bridge it, do all your routing with your personal router, and statically assign its IP. Bridging should disable any of the DHCP and routing functions of the ISP modem. Your router will be assigned the public IP on its WAN uplink.
