Minor DE and old legacy packages with their own non-standard file browsers all of them have thumbnail, and in current year it uses ffmpeg thumbnailer that is excellent.

Ubuntu has it. The problem with Linuxfags is they're all a bunch of vain autists who use it to feel special. This means they deliberately chase obscure distros and needless complexity that they use to gatekeep others. If they all united and got behind one distro like ubuntu instead it could become developed enough to compete with Windows and MacOS, a true 3rd option.

I'm in the process of migrating my daily driver from Mint Cinnamon to Debian KDE as we speak. Had the latter on my spare laptop for a while now. There's a fair bit to set up initially though, compared to Kubuntu; you might be better off with the latter, depends on you. Avoid the Kubuntu LTS though, if you want Plasma 6.

Open about:config in firefox's address bar and set widget.use-xdg-desktop-portal.file-picker to 1. That will tell it to use the portal.
If your portal's filepicker doesn't have thumbnails, then you have to install a new portal and configure xdg-desktop-portal to use it, which is a bit more complicated. The only file picker I know of that handles the confusing config stuff for you is >>106625545

Also, temp workaround, you might easily be able to drag-drop images from a file explorer window into the file upload dialogue, if Gnome is anything like Cinnamon in that respect. With dual monitors it's really not a pain at all, if you have; but even without it's not too much arseache.

Anonymous No.106627751 [Report]

Ubuntu should work, though I heard there could be some quirks still like needing to load thumbnails in regular file manager first. Sometimes thumbnails will not load even on DEs that 100% have thumbnails like KDE and LXQt because the app overrides it with the gtk portal or whatever, so you need to tinker the settings to get it working.
Anonymous No.106627769 [Report]
>>106627670
With regard to Mint Cinnamon, the op pic is 100% true. Mint is relatively easy to use, for most things, but it's not the distro for cutting edge features and with regard to something like tiled thumbnails in the file upload dialogue, that's still quite fresh to all Linux distros.
