When XP came out, it was broken as fuck. Couldn't read any floppy disks or CDs and needed a service pack to function, which you had to order and then couldn't install cuz floppy drive was broken.. Andneeded three service packs before it was good.

What matters is that it worked by the end. Windows 10 was shit on launch but now it’s not too bad. Windows 11 hasn’t improved at all in 5 years.

Never had a problem with it, not one, everything worked. I heard it didn't really get proper compatibility with 3d cards till the end of the DX8 cycle (which's what XP was supposed to do from the getgo; merge 2k stability with ME's multimedia power) but this did not affect me personally.

Looked like shit by default I'll give you that, but classic UI is like 2 clicks away so not a valid observation overall.

One thing I'll say, though, XP wasn't even usable before SP1.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Windows 12 had an immutable base à la Fedora Silverblue desu
