>desktop environments that try to emulate Windows but are way uglier, buggier, and convoluted with millions of settings that are poorly organized
Why can't any open source project outclass Windows or Mac when it comes to a desktop UI?

So are you gonna post an example or not, because KDE is none of those things

because open source projects are developed by autists, and autists have very poor theory of mind
designing a good interface for non-technical users requires you to understand how normies interact with computers and what they care about in a UI, but autists can't do this
this is why you see endless circlejerking about configurability and implementation details like X11 vs Wayland
>b-b-but X11 is so old and legacy and and
nigger normies do not care. They want to click an icon and have their browser open up and show them porn. That's literally all that matters to them
autists are great at writing schedulers and memory allocators and shit, but when it comes to interfaces designed for non-technical users, any given mediocre gen X normie engineer would do a better job, simply because they actually understand what the user wants

Linux is too expensive.

Than Windows 11? Ha! Good one.
Plasma is written in C++ it's the only blazing fast UI with a modern feature set available on any desktop OS.

The same kind of attitude keeps poor people poor.

Linux is not "better". It is just an alternative.

>kde is convoluted with millions of settings that are poorly organized
Hmmmm, that reminds me of another popular desktop enviroment. Some of its features were completely bizarre, like having to change the default application for every file, or having to use multiple settings app to be able to change everything (some were updated years before if I remember)

Settings are bad, they confuse me.
Even when they are in a settings menu that i do not see unless i specifically go there.
I hate having choices.
I want a phone.

Does Windows have a fuckable furry mascot, though? The best Microsoft has are Clippy and Rover who haven't even been around since the XP days

Windows as general Windows GUI (95-7) is probably near peak. No wonder MS didn't change fundamentals until 8 and it's objectively shit since that. KDE Plasma is better but I do admit 5 had better settings order.
>uglier
Default is better than flat shit and you can theme it to whatever you want. And even if you don't like settings, it has a search bar there which is a +
