Still have a massive hardon for the high voltage AC train lines (the local stuff is all 25kV 50Hz), bonus points for synchronous machines. Maybe one day we will get real trains based on synchronous reluctance motors but they don't have to care much about efficiency so many are still just induction motors.

What are you going to do with 600 VDC? It's far easier to steal electricity from a light pole. So long as it's between 110-240 VAC, your switching powersupply will adapt to it.

Capture the energy in the magnetic fields these lines generate rather than taking it directly from the line itself. It's harder to isloate and spot and also safer.
