WHY IS LINUX MINT SO POPULAR AS A WINDOWS REPLACEMENT?
>/g/ and countless tech blogs, podcasts, youtube channels shill dozens of Linux distros all the time to replace Windows
>yet most people end up using Linux Mint for replacing Windows on an old PC
Why?

I switched from Windows about three years ago and went with Ubuntu because there's lots of online help for it. Slowly I began to realise that the reason there's so much online help for it is because it's fucking awful and people constantly need help with it breaking. Also the default DE is so bad it blows my fucking mind. A month or so ago I hopped to a fresh Mint install and holy fuck the random small shit you can do that Ubuntu wouldn't let you do. I can right click my desktop and make text files instead of opening a terminal and using touch. I can right click my desktop and make fucking links to things holy shit. When I install a Steam game and run it the first time I can just double click it instead of having to right click and set as executable. So many small things that didn't make sense on Ubuntu just make sense on Mint.
Chances are most distros don't have these issues either so I'm sorta just ragging on Ubuntu here but Mint has been great so far.
The only issue I've run into is if I AFK long enough it'll sign me out, then when I sign back in I'll have a black screen with a cursor on it.

Desktop is all right but try to install the latest Alacritty for example.
Or Cuda tools 13 (without breaking the system package manager).
It's incredibly hard to find real information about these issues outside arch wiki and obviously arch is a different thing when it comes down to package manager issues and so on.
Essentially Cuda 13 TOOLS (nvcc) can be installed using .run package and then it doesn't break anything but most of the retards online tell you to switch repository and then it will also overwrite your existing proprietary nvidia drivers and that will break everything.
There is always a simple and clean path but god forbid if you can't figure out it on your own, you are in world of shit because internet is so bad and there's countless of retards online who tell you to do this and that.

I had a computer that I backed up to a ssd that was running Windows 7 home premium. I really want a new computer that runs the same operating system. It will be 100% offline so i figure I won't need to worry about viruses?
Is there a good way to have it on a new computer? Like just Win 7, or will it need to be virtual machine? Would it be best just to buy an old computer from around 2011 and install ssd? I worry about motherboards and other parts wearing out or getting too old.

Wordpress moment. Also apparently the site/infrastructure is managed by Canonical so it wasn't even the xubuntu team that fucked up.
Hilarious how badly the hacker blundered that. They could've tried to sneak malware into the ISO, but made the most obviously suspicious windows program, which didn't even infect you unless you clicked a specific button, and fooled zero (0) people before being caught.
