I avoid the store because it'll randomly forget to update or fail to update whatever "app" and there's no way to force it or delete it manually without it being a dick and a half because it hides all the goddamn shit downloaded from there
or i used to anyway i just use linux lately

In my work computer, I need to have admin permission to install system software so I generally use the store to get anything because it's the only way you can install anything without admin permission.
I don't use windows in my personal computer though in it, I install anything besides system software using the flathub store anyways.

I use the store only if that is the only option. Which is fairly uncommon.
I'd prefer Microsoft take their Store and shove it where they excrete from.
At least I don't really need it 99% of the time, gotta be grateful for that.

I assume most average Janes and Joes do use it, hence it has remained for years now.

You don't even need it for that, you can manage WSL2 and any related installs through Powershell. That's how I see it anyway.
