It's a waste and a shame. Notepad++ didn't improve in the past decade and is slowly getting worse, by quality. And nobody will carry on the torch because of the political implication.

That's never the reason though. What destroys software is people who don't give shit about it working on it. This is often exemplified by massive tech corporations with large bureaucracies whose sole goal is maximizing shareholder value even if it means shipping complete garbage to users. These corporations had a phase where they were doing extremely performative progressive politics, so that's probably why you associate being "political" with making bad software. In reality they are orthogonal things. You can be political and technical and you can be apolitical and technical. What matters for software quality is that you are technical.

And all the Windows fags are doing VSCode now or even Sublime, while Notepad++ can't even do basic LSP linting. One person tries to implement it with a plugin, that is still in pre-alpha stage and is a lost fight because Notepad++ is abandonware now and he gets no support.

The developer is effectively harming his project.

Notepad++ is practically not developed anymore. The dude got fed up with it. Maybe burned out or just doesn't feel like it anymore. Who knows, but fact is that he doesn't care about his own project anymore.

He should be looking for someone else to carry on. He should find a successor. Making it about politics is the easy way out. So when it is finally over and completely vanishes in irrelevancy, he can pat himself on the back and claim that it is because he was fighting against muh evil Hitler or something.

both are great, but notepad++ does the job well and is easy to use, especially in windows.
if you're on windows, opt for notepad++, if you're on linux but use two OSs, opt for vim
